Montreal would be insane to decline that... Petry's contract is easily one of the worst in the NHL and to get out from under it, while adding a bruising, solid defender and ONLY losing a 2nd round pick would be an absolute gift for Montreal...

Not nearly enough for Fiala and there aren't any quality pieces in there either. At this point Guerin shouldn't trade Fiala for anything less than an overpayment. In his last 46 games, he has 25 goals and 55 points. That's 98 points over an 82 game stretch.

Minnesota isn't doing this. We aren't trading fiala to take on a bottom line player, backup g not needed , not to mention expensive and two trash picks. To think Minnesota add their top d prospect or add anything is beyond unserious

Detroit takes that in a second but Seattle wouldn't. Fiala is gonna cost more quality pieces.

Haha, what on earth are you babbling about? Petry's basically back to his usual self since Ducharme got fired. There's no reason to get out from under it, the only reason to move him is because he wants to be in the US. They already have two bruising LDs, they don't need another. And moving what will likely be the 34th OA pick for a roster downgrade is incredibly stupid.

"Basically back to himself", haha... ok... good luck with that with a 34 year old defenseman who has CLEARLY shown significant regression this season. Your bias is showing.

What bias? Under MSL his 5v5 production is actually better than its been most of his career, his relative numbers are all very good for the team he's on and and his impacts are very good for the team he's on. His skills haven't visibly deteriorated.

Hell, the hyperbole behind a dumb statement like "Petry's contract is easily one of the worst in the NHL" makes it pretty blatant that you have no earthly idea what you're talking about.

No, it just proves that I'm not a Montreal slappy, like you. I've not watched them all, but I've seen quite a few Habs games this year and he has visibly slowed down. If you don't notice that, what are you even watching? He's on the books for 6.25m through age 37 in a league where speed matters. If you think he's good, then keep him and enjoy that contract.

Cool? You obviously don't understand what context is. And hopefully he changes his mind and stays in Montreal.

Petry's mobility has not changed, his deployment has. He's gone from a 55/45 offensive split, to 45/55 defensive.
Combine that with Ducharme's obviously flawed system, the lack of a top 4 RD behind him, no steady partner (especially with injuries), Montreal's lack of scoring and PP success, mental struggles due to separation from family, etc.
There's no single reason Petry has had a less productive than usual season. Age barely registers as one of them. He's the same player, the situation is the variable.

He has 14 points in his last 22 games. He's coming around since Montreal has replaced Ducharme, Edmundsson has returned, scoring is up, and the trade issue is temporarily on hold. With the off season approaching, seeing family is less difficult to manage and more of something to look forward to.

His contract only becomes a problem when his age does affect his performance, which has NOT been the case as of yet. One of the worst contracts in the league is a ridiculous take. You obviously haven't watched enough or have confirmation bias.
