Description
Explaining moves:

RFAs:
Those that aren’t traded are re-signed. This ACGM isn’t really focused on the AHL team

UFAs:

Dustin Brown- Brings a physical aspect to this team and can still provide some offense. He takes a cheap deal to try to win another cup

Sam Lafferty- Cheap deal to be an extra forward

Pheonix Copley- Good #3 option for cheap and could be a backup if Thompson isn’t ready

Trades:

1) Detroit gets a young forward Vegas can’t afford by sending a player that isn’t as valuable, but has salary retained to help Vegas’ cap situation

2) Los Angeles gets Martinez back as a valuable defender, and also takes on Dadonov for free (again, gaining valuable assets for cheap due to salary cap).

3) Same situation here. Buffalo gets a goalie since they may need one. If they don’t see Brossoit as valuable, they can waive him or buy him out. Nolan Patrick is a player that’s had injury issues, but could be valuable, hence why they take a chance on him and taking on Brossoit for free.

4) New Jersey gets a young center that is familiar with the New York area in Howden, as well as a great bottom-6 forward in Kolesar. Vegas can’t afford them, so they get assets for them.

You offered it. Roy is 6'4, 205 lbs. Suter is 5'11, 174 lbs. Both are 25 years old. Roy has 2 more points. I'm all for the Red Wings being tougher to play against.

Suter scores 1.59 points per 60
      Roy scores 1.56 PP60

Suter has 2.06 takeaways per 60
      Roy has 1.42

Suter has 1.41 giveaways per 60
      Roy has 1.88

      Suter's faceoff percentage is 50.0
      Roy's is 49.0

This is a downtrade in every way.

I'd still take Roy. I doubt Vegas makes this trade anyway.

If you want Detroit to be harder to play against why are you trading away the player on the team with most takeaways of all?
Suter has the largest positive TA/GA difference of everybody on the team and you want to swap him for one with a negative TA/GA diff. And you want to reatain salary on top of it. That doesn't make any sense at all.

It's not great for Vegas, they could likely do better. Would love this as a Wings fan tho b/c I think Suter sucks ass

That doesn't mean you have to pay to trade down to someone who's objectively worse in almost every metric.

Suter is 1st on the team in takeaways/60
Suter is 1st on the team in ta/ga diff/60
Suter is 2nd on the team in faceoff%
Suter is 6th on the team in scoring/60

The only metric where he isn't top is in hitting and shotblocking. Is that why you don't like him?

Analytics is part of the story. Not all of the story. Given the makeup of the current Red Wings team, Roy would make this team more balanced with his size. He's also much stronger than Suter is. Suter is a bit more skilled but not by much. And I'll definitely take the more physical player. We have enough skill guys coming up.

I would do the trade for Roy but I think it depends if Detroit upgrades at center 1st. Like if they add trocheck then you move suter for Roy and put him a big winger on the right in your top 6.

Can't see DB signing a cheap deal with Vegas to chase a Cup -- he's already got 2. I sincerely doubt he goes to a direct rival of the team he's played for his entire career.

My bet is he either signs a cheap deal like that to stay in LA, or retires if LA doesn't offer him something. We'll see though.

Yes. Roy can also play LW or RW. I'd offer Trochek 5 years/6 mil AAV to play 2C.

Brossoit, and Patrick for Future Considerations? If I were the Sabres GM, I would do that deal!
Brossoit has up then down seasons:

Vegas views cap space more valuable than Brossoit’s potential struggles and Patrick’s injury proneness. Hope they work out tho
