Description
Doubt the Rangers want to be this close to the cap, Plus, does Vatrano or Copp realistically sign for that little? I had Copp at $5M x 5 which seems more realistic, but I had to steal a liiiiitle bit away to be able to sign a 7D.

Would be reeeeal nice if Reaves wasn’t on the books at $1.75M for next year. But I don’t see them trading him either.

I’m hoping we forget Blais and Othmann grabs a spot instead. He’s cheaper and looking like he’s gonna be a great player.

Maybe you’re right about Kakko (depends on how his playoffs go), but I don’t see how you can give Frankie Vats less. He’s already making $2.5 and I’d argue that playing on the top line AND producing the way he is merits AT LEAST a half mil raise. Probably more, actually, to the point where I’m not sure if we can afford to keep him.

FV will test the market and if he doesn’t get a good deal somewhere else he is likely to sign a 1yr cheap to bet on himself with NYR. Unlikely but there’s too many UFA out there looking for massive pay days and not a lot of money to go around when it comes down to it.

Copp is having a similar year to last where he was given his deal from arbitration. Strome got less than 5M with a 70 point season. Maybe another GM offers 6.5M but I doubt it. Trouba and Copp grew up together so likely he is willing to take less to stay also.

Regarding Vatrano...he drifted into irrelevance with FLA yet has found a niche here...so maybe he looks to stay here on a 1 or 2 year deal at a minimal, team friendly raise so that he can continue in NYR top 6 and possibly set up one more contract for himself ?

Regarding Othmann...unless he shows in camp that further development is best done in the NHL, it might be best to leave him in juniors 1 more year. Sliding his ELC 1 more year might be significant a few years down the line...and if he's on the NYR roster, his bonus $ has to be accounted for in their CAP.
