Moving at the top of a draft is usually very costly. Connor Brown is an excellent 2-way player. He had 5 pts less than Fiala last season. Will cost a lot less than Fiala both next season and for the next 5 years (could maybe get him around 4.5 depending on Minnesota state taxes)

Yep agreed. Fiala is playing a lot better than Brown this season and think the above trade would require an add on the Ott side.

Brown is a luxury type you can have on your 3rd line. He will shutdown other lines and produce offense, which is added bonus.

Fiala is a pretty good top-6 forward though so he is worth more.

But considering (incoming) contracts and 2-way play, the difference is not going to be as substantial as people think. Brown himself would return a 1st and a decent prospect.

I think a fair trade for Fiala would be :

Brown, Connor
2023 1st round pick (OTT) (Top-5 protected)

OR even

Brown, Connor
Roby Jarventie/Lassi Thomson/ Filip Gustavsson
2023 2nd round pick (OTT)


Gustavsson would be interesting for Minny, no?
