Not re-signing Kane

Description
I love what Kane has brought to this team, but if he's going to cost ~$5M going forward, I'd rather use that money elsewhere. He'll be 31 in August and we've seen a plethora of power forwards decline precipitously at - or shortly after - 30.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bourgault makes the team out of camp next fall, I'm penciling him in here to see how it looks. He's the best goal scorer of his draft by NHLe currently, and I think Dawson Mercer is a good comp for him. Bourgault has been better in the Q than Mercer was, and Mercer is in the NHL this season and has played well. So I don't think this is a stretch.

Trades:
Seattle - 3rd line forechecker for 3rd pairing defenseman.
Dallas - replacement for Klingberg who likely isn't signing in Dallas. Barrie has better stats this year (and historically) than Klingberg and nobody here would have batted an eye if Klingberg got traded for a 1st as a rental, so I think this is actually an underpay for Barrie.
Philadelphia - bringing back the Broad Street Bullies theme in Philadelphia. People will scream about value, but its Philadelphia. They gave up a 1st for Ristolainen and then signed him to a big contract. As fat as I can see, the only thing Ristolainen brings is physicality, so Kassian would be a great fit.

I think that kane is unfeasible if he is going to cost more than 4.25-4.5.

Mikheyev gets probably 2.5 or so. Kassian has negative value and Barrie’s is not that high

Could be. I looked at a few Leafs AGM's and noticed most didn't re-sign him, so I had nothing to go by when setting his cap hit.

Read the Team Explanation. If you have a valid argument, let's hear it.

Yeah hes not coming back unless Kerfoot goes. Or they decide to move Nylander which has been a topic of discussion

As man Engvall-Mikheyev has become a scary SH duo

I would say rn Mikheyev probs gonna get Foegele to Donskoi money

Yeak Kane's absolutely doable on like a $4M/2y. He might just want some security for he and his daughter, and that kind of deal accomplishes that handily.

I can't see that return sitting well for Stars fans considering their routine ask is a 3rd round pick and a bottom-pair AHL defenceman. Maybe a 2nd rounder is more of an apt ask but I recall that they're expecting cap issues next summer. I still think Seattle is the better fit for Barrie: Soucy and any of their late seconds is *right there* for the taking given their positional needs and salary situation.

I've been flirting with Foegele for McCarron and Myers out of Nashville. I'm still vastly preferential to Broberg starting in the minors - this was his first season in NA and by most accounts from the Condors this season represented far more strenuous a workload than he was expecting and resulted in a fair number of rest days - where he can tandem on his offhand side with Niemelainen or drive a top pair with Desharnais. I think Manson has the tools to get Myers back on track with what he was supposed to be by this age and I like that he's a righty with club control after this season. I think he'd stylistically fit well with Keith supposing that Soucy gets paired with Bouchard.

I think the Tuch contract is a best-case comparable for Puljujarvi. Factoring for taxes and cap percentage, a 7-year deal comes in somewhere around $5.1M annually.

If Kuemper leaves Colorado I'd jump on that signing six ways to Sunday but I'm growing evermore cautiously pessimistic that he won't. Lordy would I prefer a 4-year deal.

An entirely reasonable projection.

Arthur Kaliyev has developed well getting sheltered minutes on the fourth line, so your coaching staff might start Bourgeault out there.

Stars decline. Not giving up first for Barrie. Would much rather take a UFA player like Schultz or something like that.

For Puljujarvi I used Kotkaniemi as a comp, $4.75M x 8. Kotkaniemi is younger (+) and plays center (+) so I took $500k off the deal. It might be light but if there's one thing Holland is good at it's grinding his RFA contracts.

This may be completely unwarranted but I think Edmonton has to be very careful about trying to squeeze Puljujarvi. He's walked away once before and came back on good faith and signed a very team-friendly deal in that same good faith. If we're looking at a rehashing of the Smyth situation and there's a sub-$1M gap between player and manager, I'd hope Holland plays ball with a higher ask.
