Description
I think Bergy keeps playing (unless we see a Cup win?) So my biggest question is Jake Debrusk.

He's played the best hockey of his career the past 10 or so games. Yes he's playing with Bergy and Marchy, points were expected. But he looks ENGAGED. Seeing him stand up for Marchy against CBJ immediately showed me that his mindset is different right now. He's not making crazy money, even with the first half he had this year, he's notched 20Gs and may well hit 25 if he continues his play. I'm also curious to see what happens with his trade request. Obviously he's had his gripes with Cassidy, mostly rightly so, but both he and Cassidy are proving that if he plays engaged, smart, tough hockey, he'll get rewarded. He's got good value right now, so I can see the Bruins capitalizing at the draft, maybe to get back into the 1st round. Ideally apart of a larger deal to upgrade the team. Who knows, just happy he's playing well.

Curtis Lazar is likely gone. Love his game, but probably gets $1.5M+ which is likely a bit too much for the Bruins with guys like Steen and McLaughlin seemingly NHL ready.

Foligno has gotta get bought out. Absolutely love the person, you can see the respect he already has in the locker room. The guys love him, wish he could stay with us for another year in a depth role for $1M, but $3.8M isn't $1M.

Reilly to the Isles for a 3rd might be the least debated trade on this site. It makes sense. I like Reilly a lot, yea he'll get beat every so often, but I think his value on the breakout is far more important than a rough coverage here and there. Don't underestimate how important that is. But I think he's kinda trapped in that Cassidy doghouse. With the left side the Bs already have and Forbort a. having a MTC and b. Completing a nice PK, Reilly is probably the odd man out. I think he's proven his season last year was not a fluke, I'd like the Bs to get a bit more than a 3rd considering that's what they paid for 25 games of him, but just splitting hairs at that point.

Lastly, the 2C issue, or maybe lack of. Haula has been great. Done everything he's been asked to do and you don't need a 30 goal, 70 point guy as your 2c if you have wingers like Hall and Pasta. If Haula wasn't playing so well, I'd love to see Studnicka at 2c with consistent minutes for about 15-20 games. It's getting to sink or swim time for him, but don't really see that happening with Haula's play. If Debrusk is moved and nobody is brought in externally, maybe a shot next to Bergy. He's far better at C, but maybe give him a few games.

If Debrusk leaves, I love Burakovsky as a fit. good enough two-way game that would look great next to 37 and 63. Perron and Nichushkin are another couple good options.

would love to see Zboril back, genuinely not sure where his head is at but should be getting everyday minutes next year. Sucks that his injury lead him to being a UFA

(i know im slightly over cap, just estimating how everything may work)

No one is paying a 1st for DeBrusk. Production isn't 1st worthy and the guy has asked for a trade.

25 year old 20+ goal scorers can definitely get a first.

In case you haven’t noticed, the bruins really don’t care about him asking for a trade.

DeBrusk was playing really well before being moved up. In fact it was his play that earned him a look on the 1st line.

Good news for Boston is DeBrusk has a fresh 2yr extension and if they don't get an offer they like, they keep him and let him play on the 1st line with 63/37.

That's good news for Nashville too. Sucks for DeBrusk though, if he still wants out of Boston.

At the draft a few years ago, the Penguins paid a late first to St Louis to get Ryan Reaves so … it’s easily possible that someone will pay that same price for DeBrusk.

I’d prefer to keep Foligno for next year. It looks bad to sign a UFA and then buy him out after a year or so.

Wouldn't be shocked if during the off-season he rescinds his trade request. A lot of his frustration was around how he was being used and feeling like he was blocked by Marchand/Hall.

he's a 25-year-old on a good contract with two 20 goal seasons under his belt. Currently 34th in the league in even strength goals/60. Players in that range are: Draisaitl at 29, Pastrnak at 31, Marner at 33, Larkin at 37, Tarasenko at 38.

He is a top 6 forward

cherry picked stat, hes a 40 point winger that is lazy and isnt good defensively, bruins fans are clinging to his career year 3-4 years ago, hard for them to accept that they screwed not 1 but all 3 of those picks, middle 6 winger

goals scored at even strength are pretty damn important. When you're playing 14-15 minutes a night compared to 18-19 like many others, per/60 minutes is a very applicable stat to level the playing field.

Saying he's not good defensively is simply incorrect. Analytically, he's one of the better defensive players in the league. https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2022/03/06115021/Screen-Shot-2022-04-06-at-10.28.05-AM.png

He's had one bad year, a covid, injury riddled season last year. If that's what you look at, you're certainly the one cherry picking.

seems like its hard for you to accept that Debrusk is a top-6 player

hes a 40 point guy, got 27 goals once, middle 6 player, hes not getting a first, leafs should sell high on their wingers if debrusk gets a first

also the screenshot you posted has him as a middle 6 player lmao

the "middle six" is based on ice time, not production. He's well outproducing his ice-time. Hence using ESG/60.

Kapanen got a 1st+ and Debrusk is certainly a better player.

He's a 25 goal a year guy with playoff success. That type of player gets a 1st rounder

coming from a leafs fan the kap trade was an overpay, they arent that much different of players, both middle 6 guys

per natural stat trickthis year, with a garbage start on a line that was roughly 20 games of debrusk haula foligno and then another 20 of debrusk coyle (random 3 rw smith/foligno/lazar/nosek/steen)... debrusk has as many 5v5 goals as: barkov, svechnikov, nylander, bjorkstrand, laine, zuccarello... all top 6 guys. he has more 5v5 goals than tavares, pavelski, giroux, farabee, buchnevich, schmaltz, seguin, rakell, zibanejad, garland, kane, crosby, etc.

and before you go all "hes playing with marchand and bergeron of course hes doing better" hes got less time with bergeron than he does with haula and coyle on the year. hes got slightly over double the time with marchand as he does lazar/nosek/foligno.

idk ide say thats pretty good. and its not like hes not shooting this ridiculous unsustainable 20+% or something hes at 14% even at 12% hes still a 20 goal scorer this year. give him legit pp time and hes easily a 30-20 player.

And still you can't beat the Bruins in the playoffs. Maybe this will be your year but then again maybe not. Real Bruins fans moved on from those mistakes long ago but if that's all you have to hang your hat on and feel good about when it comes to Boston then you keep doing you.

In the end I think DeBrusk stays a Bruin but there is merit to the thought of what his improved play may generate in the form of a trade return.

Haula has definitely earned the right to start next year as the 2C and if Studnicka has another good camp the 4th line would be better off with him at 4C and Nosek at 4LW like you rostered it.

Well done.
