Not really. Boeser has a terrible QO and probably would walk after. Cole Caufield has a year of his ELC left and total team control. So Boeser for Gallagher and a 3rd is a much closer deal than Myers and a 3rd for Caufield.

Tbh there isn’t a great comparable for Boeser on the Habs roster. Even with the high QO, Boeser will sign for less than it on a long term deal

But the point is, both are terribly lopsided trades

Pearson for Gallagher

I wouldn’t do that. Pearson has been much better this year, and has a fairly reasonable contract with less term. Only player I’d consider moving for Gallagher is OEL, and even then I’d consider keeping OEL

See that is actually fair. 4 players with bad contracts moving around.

Granted OEL would not waive and MTL already has a plenty of LHDs so it doesn't make sense position wise.

Also Gallagher is two or three years from being on LTIR for good. His playstyle is, quite typically for power forwards, very weary, and the toll on his body will force him to retire before the contract runs it's course.

No he wouldn’t. He made his contract this way for the purpose of getting to UFA faster and bet on himself. And he sure as hell wouldn’t do it for a horrible Habs team lol.
Vancouvers only option is to qualify Boeser and hope he signs long term and make him part of the core. Or Qualify him and trade him at the deadline with 50% retention. That’s the only way they get solid return for him. And it’s going to be picks/prospects, not a top 4 RHD. This trading him nonsense is just that. Nonsense. No one will want to touch that QO unless it’s a buy low option and they get a chance to figure out if he would be willing to sign long term after his QO

I assume any team the Canucks would trade Boeser to would be able to negotiate an extension as part of the trade

we don't need to take on more money for the same player. Pearson has had a nice redeeming year.

You realize Boeser’s QO is only 1 million dollars more than Gallagher’s cap hit right? I’d soooooooo much rather have Boeser and 7.5 than Gallagher at 6.5. Brad Hunt is our 7th d-man and he currently has a higher point per game average this season than Gallagher. He’s our 7th d-man.

Yeah he would, There's no way Ekman-Larsson would waive for Montreal when he basically said only Boston and Vancouver.

I agree Boeser for Gallagher is unrealistic because Gallagher is way better than Boeser and Montreal would say no. Hughes+Boeser for Gallagher+Savard is much more even. Canucks might even have to add.

Oh yeah it's super fair. Montreal ends up getting 5x7.26 for an LD while their barn's full of those instead of keeping Gallagher's 5x6.5 contract just for fun and loses 750k in the meantime. Byron only has one more year and got an A on his shirt so why would they trade 1x3.4 for 2x2.65 on a guy with less leadership skills?

I literally just said it doesn't make sense position wise, but yes value-wise it's pretty close to fair.

All of the players in this exchange are overpaid. Dickinson is younger than Byron with smaller cap hit although yes he has one more year of term.

Gallagher for Myers and conditional picks.
Every year he hits 20 goals, Montreal gets a 2nd.
If he hits 30 once, Montreal gets a 1st.

If you truly think he's washed up, bet on it.
If he's really a cap dump, he won't cost any picks at all.

I highly doubt Gallagher and Byron have more leadership qualities than OEL and Dickinson seeing bad how OEL was the CAPTAIN of the Arizona Coyotes for several years

Well a rebuilding team isn’t going to want to give up a pick for that 7.5 million QO just to walk after a year. It might be different if Montreal was a Brock Boeser away from a stanley cup, but they aren’t. And what’s you’re point about hunt having a better ppg? He’s played less games and plays on a better team with more talent. Hunt also has a better ppg than Boyle on the pens and I still wouldn’t trade Boyle for Hunt. Zucker and Zohorna both have a better ppg than Hoglander. Would you trade Hoglander for either of those players? If you’re being honest with yourself, that answer is no.
