Fix the RHD long term with two NCAA signings and one trade

Description
Hopefully VAN can snag one or two NCAA free agents to bolster the RHD depth after the NCAA playoffs are over. Livingstone and Frisch both have ties to the area/team and the Canucks have a serious need at the position, so they could land them both. There may not be a spot on the big club right away on paper, but if either outplays Schenn or Dermott they could win one. Otherwise Schenn is gone next year and Myers the year after, so a succession plan is there.

If the JT Miller camp holds firm on an 8 year term for big money, VAN should deal him this offseason. This CBJ trade gets them a good young Dman in Boqvist and another high pick this year. If Texier develops into a good middle-sixer then it's a bonus. I signed Boqvist to what would be similar to a Girard-type deal, but they have the option to bridge as well.

If this is an improved roster that makes the playoffs, great! If not, then the team got younger, with more high end prospects, and still has plenty of cap room and one big chip to play before the 2023 trade deadline in Captain Horvat.

I feel like moving Boqvist is a huge no-no for Columbus. RD is a hole that absolutely needs to be addressed for them, and trading him does the opposite.

That's fair; maybe the deal includes Schenn going back for a short-term solution? This deal was actually pitched by another Jackets fan on here.

Yeah, I don't know...just doesn't seem like an insanely smart move long term...If I'm the Jackets, I'm drafting whichever of Nemec or Jiricek I can get with that Hawks pick (Assuming my beloved Ducks don't leap frog them and steal 'em), and going with Boqvist-Jiricek/Nemec long term.

Not a Jackets fan, but I'd do something like 12OA+Tex+another prospect, but I just don't see the value in digging a hole to fill another. Just my thoughts though.

You didn't read the description. The trade only happens with Miller agreeing to an extension.

Only way Columbus considers this is if Miller cones with an extension and they are able to get Jiricek or Nemec in the draft. If not they probably want to keep Boqvist.

It could also depend on how Columbus views Cuelamens development and how close he is to NHL ready.

I don’t see why CBJ would want Miller tbh. They seem to be more of in a rebuild than we are

The deal hinges on Miller negotiating an extension with the Jackets before the trade is official. The idea would be to bring in another high end player (that can play C) to help persuade Laine to extend long term as well.

Looked at this trade when it was originally put together. @THE_CANNON

All told, I'm for it - if CBJ are comfortable Miller can keep playing at a high level when he is centering, say Bjorky and Laine, it'd be great to have him and Silly as our 1+2 for the next 4-5 years. I even think that because he will be a little bit older when this contract expires, he might not cost *as much.*

Right now, CBJ are hurting for a 1C, as well as RD depth. This trade would at least answer the first, but it leaves us in the same position with the latter. CC has some good upside, but the consensus seems to be he is 1-2 seasons away.

I think adding Schenn would be good. CBJ need true RDs, and the guy is big - CBJ have plenty of small(er), mobile, puck-movers on the blue-line, not a ton of big, S-A-H D.

I could see something like this trade happening around the draft, with CBJ also moving Gus for a 1st. They could retain half, and VAN could act as a broker to pick up more salary, and move him to a third party.

I'm not sure who specifically is in the market for a T6 winger, but I think Gus' stock is high enough.

Could leave us with a roster something like:

Bjorky - Miller - Laine
Johnson - Silly - Jake
Chinakhov - Rosy - Jenner
Robinson - Kuraly - Foudy

Z - Bean
Vlad - Peeke
Carlsson - Schenn

Obviously see some move-around based on merit/ injury, but pretty good, imo. I'd see Johnson/ Marchenko likely spending some time in the AHL to season, probably more likely Marchenko of the two. Bemstrom could likely be an off-season move.

Ngl, I’m not worried about Laine. If he stays great if not, oh well. He’s been good this year but he’s also a one trick player with a great shot, he floats defensively and doesn’t really drive play.

I have a hard time seeing the motivation for CBJ to go after miller. Theyre going to be in a rebuild when miller can give them value on a contract and by the time theyll be ready to compete miller will probably be overpaid and he will be getting old.

I don’t think Miller would want to sign in CBJ. Value probably isn’t that far off but I see Miller being resigned or traded to a team that thinks they can win a cup. I’m just praying he isn’t in Blue and Red next year.

That is the opposite of how to execute a rebuild.
