1rst: habs won't trade for an another unidimensional defensman in barrie
2nd: maybe you think romanov is still that nonchalant defensman but he has taken a major step and will play big minutes for the next 10 years with a decent salary
3rd: mini won't trade dumba for a late 1rst

Minny declines. The other trades barely make the team better. And you still have no goaltending. Cup winning team? That's hardly even a playoff team. Oilers need a major over haul. They have about 5-6 good pieces the supporting cast is trash.

Petry has had a rough year but he bounces back to what he was last year he brings a lot more to your team than Barrie, we have no use for Barrie or Keith so wouldnt take on all that cap. Romanov is an absolute non starter its fine not to realize how far along he has come if you dont watch him regularly but he staying in mtl.

right. Never played a playoff game in his life. Plays behind a very defensive team in Dallas. He's good IN Dallas, behind that Oilers team tho... doubtful. Not to mention Dallas gives him up because.....???

I'd rather have Ceci + 1st + $3M than Dumba for 1 year. And it's not close.

Ignoring Keith not agreeing to Montreal and Petry not agreeing to Edmonton ...

I'd put Hoffman at RD full time before I would trade Petry for Barrie.
If Romanov were to be moved, it wouldn't be for the ghost of Duncan Keith and yet another 5'9 question mark forward.

Come on now you have to know how bad this is for Montreal! Losing 2 top 4 D men and getting back a one dimensional D man in Barrie, an old broken down d man who wouldn't waive for Montreal in the first place and some unknown prospect winger who is not needed.

I'm not advocating for this trade AT ALL, just wanted to point out that Savoie is posting similar NHLe's to Caufield.

NHLe Draft+1
Savoie: 19-11-30
Caufield: 14-13-27

NHLe Draft+2
Savoie: 22-21-43
Caufield: 26-20-46

Unless you considered Caufield to be a question mark this time last year, you shouldn't consider Savoie one.

All undersized forwards are question marks. I trust the scouts largely for what I can't see, and every team passed on him at least 3 times.
First round picks almost always get long looks and better opportunities simply due to draft position. So I'd always say a higher drafted player is more likely to reach their potential.
Doesn't mean it's right, that's just the way it usually works.

All prospects are question marks to some degree.

Teams passed on Savoie for two reasons: he wasn't in top shape (comp: Phil Kessel) and he played in an obscure junior league (AJHL). Scouting reports at the time indicated that he had high skill including probably the best shot of the draft, the worry was that it wouldn't translate to the next level. It has... I'd think Savoie is worth a 1st round pick right now.

That Montreal trade is ATROCIOUS. Barrie is not better than Petry. Petry is getting back to his old form, while Barrie is essentially a fourth forward who’s a liability defensively. On top of that, Montreal isn’t retaining almost 50% on him. Romanov is gonna be Montreal’s too pairing d man for the next decade and will be more impactful than Savoie. They essentially give up the better players for two overpaid **** defensemen, how did you think this was a good idea??
