Ya why would a Fl team with 3M cap space going into next season make close to a lateral move while accruing cap space for a mid level prospect?

Strictly looking at what we get, I like it — I think it maybe feels a tad light on the picks for the retentions but adding Roy I think would be real nice (we have to stay above the floor so that lessens the feeling on the retentions)

You get Duclair. While Roy is a sweetener it’s not for nothing. Save money for a younger player making less than Dadonov plus Roy is getting a raise.

Lateral move? Duclair has 26 goals and 49 points while Dadonov only has 17 goals and 32 points, and makes more money... And Hornqvist, who is a great net front and leadership guy, albeit overpaid, and a great prospect in Sourdif

Steel is a nobody, struggling to make an impact for multiple years at age 24. If we need to clear cap, we will just move Hornqvist to another team with a pick and cut all of this crap out.

Yeah you lost me at “makes more money”. You paid zero attention to the trade and just started spouting and have done very little research outside of points.

That’s a no from Florida, Duke is better than Daddy. Plus the Cats wouldn’t want him. Horny isn’t a cap dump, a team looking for leadership and a net front presence will pay a 3rd for one year of him. Would rather get high to mid level picks instead to recoup what they have traded away if they are going to trade Duke. Don’t see them trading Sourdif

No they won’t. No one is paying for Hornqvist. He’s a 5.3M 4th liner, plays 4th line minutes vs poor competition with poor teammates.

Also the only thing Duclair has been better than Dadonov at this year is finishing. He’s miles worst defensively.

Do Florida fans realize that at most they’ll have 4.5M of cap space going into next season with 15 of the current roster signed? They’re in cap hell with no picks to move cap. They’re gonna have to move prospects to get rid of cap. This deal saves them 5.8M without them losing a significant roster piece and replacing Duclair with a cheaper player of similar quality and a young cheap solid defensive forward.

They could also just dump Hornqvist by himself. There's no need to do the Duclair for Dadonov part of the trade

You underestimate what leadership and locker room presence is worth. It is very possible the Cats pay to trade Horny but it would cost a low level pick. No reason to trade Duke and Sourdif.

5M Dadonov cost a 2nd but yeah a worse player with a higher cap hit in Hornqvist will return positive value. Good one.

They don’t really have the picks to do it so it’ll cost a prospect.

getting a 3rd or 4th is fine. Different type of players so trying to evaluate their value as equal isn’t accurate. Reaves returned a first round pick…why because he was the type of player that team needed. Not arguing that in most instances teams have to pay to shed players with relatively high cap hits but if it fits a team’s need then a pick will suffice.

If it will cost anything...
But that's okay. It's much better than downgrading on Duclair

I don’t think you guys really understand that the downgrade is solely in contract length. Dadonov and Duclair have similar analytics this season with 2 major differences, Dadonov is having a career year defensively where Duclair is awful, and Duclair is having a career year finishing where Dadonov has been just okay.

It’s a minute downgrade for 5.8M in cap space.

If Sourdif has jumped when it comes to his prospects it could be someone different. I picked him because Wheeler had him ranked ~5 in the Panthers system that didn’t include Lundell or Knight.

In what world did Reaves return a 1st?

No one is paying for 5.3M Hornqvist.

In 2017, Pens traded Sundqvist and a first for Reaves and 2nd.

See you left out all the details. He didn’t return a 1st alone. STL moved up 20 spots by moving Reaves.

Dude, Dadonov played for the Panthers for multiple years. We know what he is and isn't.

He looked completely lost when he didn't have Barkov and Huberdeau on the same line and mostly just held those two back. He did not seem to drive any play. We do not want him back. Analytics aren't everything.

And 5,3M of that cap space the Panthers would be accruing is coming from dumping Horny, so swapping Duclair for Dadonov would bring about 0,5M in cap space. Not worth it.
