it would officially be the mike milbury era 2.0 if this trade went down.

The amount of fans that would stop going to games...

Probable top 10 pick, wahlstrom, 1st in deep draft, and a probable bust but with a high ceiling, for chychrun. Hell no.

I agree with you guys, trust me. But I have a feeling Wahlstrom’s days are numbered. If we are going hard are Chychrun this summer, I doubt we shake him free without offering Wahly up and based on how he’s been utilized this season, I’m not sure the organization would have a problem with that…

This trade is more of a worst case scenario in my eyes, but seeing how highly teams value players like Chychrun, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility. If the Islanders fancy themselves as a team like Florida, Tampa or Colorado (and the fact that they think this year was simply a hiccup, rather than a representation of bigger issues in the organization suggests that they might), perhaps they think Chychrun is the piece that puts them over the edge.

Why would Wahlstroms days be numbered? He’s a Lou guy and the islanders don’t need Chychrun. What makes you think the isles would go hard after Chychrun? The Kings are going to be the ones that land him.

If Wahlstrom gets traded, Dobson , Barzal, and sorokin will be gone within a year or two as well. Players don’t want to be apart of a team that constantly throw away young talent. I would bet a lot of money that Barzal puts in a trade request next offseason when he’s due for new contract if Wahlstrom gets traded.

Not at all because dufour and Raty won’t be close to as good as Wahlstrom.

Nichols seems to think Chychrun is a possibility. Honestly, the Islanders make as much sense as the Kings do, it's just a matter of whether or not they have the assets (I would say they do) to rival a package LA could throw their way. I'm not sure if that's something they should do, but if that's the path they decide to go down, I think they could.

As for Wahlstrom, I think we both love the guy, both for what he is now and for what he could be. Maybe we (I?) need to be more patient and just let the org do their thing with him; maybe this is just their plan for his development. But to me, there's just been a disconnect this season between where he's at right now and how he's been used on a nightly basis and it's been worrying me. Having him finally on a line with Barzal is a promising step but he's still not playing on the power play or OT, on top of all of the other concerning signs from this season. And as soon as 27-29-18 stops producing and the lines go back in a blender, 13 and 26 might just get split up again too, halting the development of their chemistry.

I just can't shake the feeling that the organization doesn't know what they have and as soon as something that appears better comes along, they're going to jump at it and regret it later. Again though, it could all just be an overreaction on my part

Nichols has no sources and the isles do not make as much sense as the Kings do. The kings have 1 top pair defenseman who's exiting his prime (Doughty) and he's only had 1 good season in the past 3 years. The islanders have two top 20 defenseman and Dobson has had a top pair impact as well. Chychrun would be the 4th best defenseman on this team and we're going to give up multiple high end assets to do it? That's insane.

5 months ago half the fanbase was concerned Dobson would bust (they did the same with Pulock) - there were multiple trades on here from isles fans giving up Dobson and a 1st for Boeser. Now it's happening with Wahlstrom, the difference with Wahlstrom is he has consistently had a solid two way impact for the last two years. I disagree with the way Trotz handles Wahlstrom, that being said the Barzal-Wahlstrom combination has been working so far - I don't care about them being snake bitten, they have been tilting the ice almost every time theyre on the ice which is the most important thing. It would take 27-29-18 going on like a 10 game scoreless drought to break that line up. That line was the only line not to give up a high danger chance tonight, Trotz isn't breaking them up anytime soon.

Wahlstrom was Lou's 1st pick when he joined the isles, he's American, and he's a physical player who can score goals. Unless someone is significantly overpaying for him, he's not going anywhere. Lou has an ego and Wahlstrom is a "Lou guy" for the reasons I stated. Your referring more to Trotz but that's just not how Lou operates . If Lou is going to do something stupid, it's probably going to be a Beauvillier trade which is just as bad as trading Wahlstrom IMO. Lou didn't draft him and he probably see's him as streaky and doesn't want to admit signing Palmieri was a mistake.

The difference between the isles and kings is that the kings need a top pair D, the isles do not.. The kings can afford to give up high end assets and still be ok, the isles giving up this proposed package would sink them in the short and long term.
