Colorado is all in this year. Lehkonen will help them this year and next year. Barron wouldn’t help in the Ahl. Prospect are good but Colorado is aiming for the cup and only the cup. Lehkonen will be extremely useful on the road in the playoff.

It hurts, but if they can keep Manson it'll really help ease the pain of trading away 3 great RHD prospects this year

Yeah that 3RW spot is going to need to be freed up to create some opportunity for Kaut/Olausson/Ranta next year, at a much cheaper caphit than $3.5m.

Some people around here though i was crazy but i knew all along that it would take this kind of deal to take him out of Montreal. Everyone will agree that Colorado gave a lot in that trade. prospect are nice but it doesn’t help at all in playoff. And when you are a stacked team like Colorado, you better pursue players that will feel need. Lehkonen is not the sexiest player but i am sure off one thing, you will all love him right away. That dude never take a shift off and will make Colorado a better team, especially on the road when you can put him on the ice against anyone and know that he will not cost you. Not sure I want Bura back, especially at that price and term - he's too streaky and doesn't play good D. How about Marchment instead at 4x4 I'd sign Val to a 6x4.25 to get his AAV down plus he gets an extra $.5M; he's young enough it would make sense. Maybe that kind of deal keeps Manson but he might get more elsewhere.

I have a suspicion that they'll be looking to offload EJ's contract after this season and do everything necessary to re-sign Manson. They kind of have to after trading away their entire RHD depth.

Great point about the RHD depth. I hadn't really thought about dumping EJ. Can't imagine anyone would want his contract but maybe throw in some retention and a low pick or they could buy him out and have him count only $2M against the cap as compared to $6M. That dead space isn't ideal but it does help. Let's hope they get him a Cup before that decision has to be made.

Even if they bought out EJ, it’s $2M against the cap for 2 years. Not ideal, but that extra $4M could go a long way. Or they could trade him with retained salary for the last year of his deal if needed. Or maybe he’s suddenly allergic to his equipment or something…
