To get a fresh body on the ice that's a pretty good deal for Seattle. Rask may not be that good anymore but he isn't totally washed, definitely a decent contributor for the Kraken's bottom 6.

Also great for Minnesota to get out from under the contract, even if they had to retain to make it happen

Considering the fact that he's been in Iowa for the last couple months, this is saving us money, both in real money and cap space. He's a UFA at the end of the year so it's not like this is long term dead cap. Instead of paying $4 million for a guy to waste away in the minors, we will gladly pay $2 million to get rid of him for the rest of the season and let him have a chance to earn a contract next year.

For me Kraken win this trade. The Kraken get a decent bottom 6 forward to help with the depth. The Wild finally get rid of Rask’s contract. Rask isn’t a really good player but with a team like Seattle who’s doing pretty bad he could definitely help them out so for me this is win for Seattle but barley.

Since Minnesota didn't have to give up assets to unload his contract, they win this trade.

Unfortunately the Leafs actually 'won' this honour too.
Ever heard of Larry Murphy? You might know him from the hockey hall of fame. We paid part of his salary in the trade

The reason the Wild didn't give up a pick and retained salary is because they literally did not have to move him. He could have sat in Iowa the rest of the season and the Wild wouldn't have had any issues. They found a team that would take him for the rest of the season and (probably) give him a chance at some NHL games. Guerin did this completely as a favor to Rask for being a good sport during his time with the Wild.

Thought they would've had to paid to get rid of him. Maybe rask can rebound in Seattle, and Minnesota gets that all important cap space. A win-win

He's an expiring contract and the Wild didn't need the cap space to make any further deals. Deal was purely about giving Rask a chance to play in the NHL for the rest of the season with Seattle's roster being trimmed down from the TDL.

Exactly. Fitting that he goes back to the GM who signed him to that contract. A decent move by the Wild giving him a chance to get back into the NHL.
