The only thing I don't like about this contract is buying 2 RFA years and walking him right to UFA status. But this will be good value for whoever trades for him for those 2 years

DeBrusk is a doppelgänger for Calgary’s Gaudreau… watch them play.

Yes the 2yr deal was to reduce concerns teams had about being able to re-up him

Could be a sign and trade, now his QO worries are gone

It's true that teams like cost certainty, so signed players are generally easier to trade and fetch more than pending RFAs, but this means the team trading for him could lose him as a UFA after only two years, which could make him less attractive to somebody who was hoping to get him for a longer term. Wouldn't a better solution have been to let other teams negotiate with him before finalizing a trade?

Straight to free agency. I guess that means he's not in Boston's long-term plans.

Why would you reward a player that publicly stated he wanted to be traded ...

with a multi-million dollar extension??

Enlighten me.

Why would you reward a player that publicly stated he wants to be traded...

With just letting him walk for free??

Enlighten me.

He would have been an RFA at the end of the season and the Bruins would still have team control.

In the offseason, DeBrusk would be traded to a team where he would want to sign an extension ...

and where the terms of DeBrusk's next contract would be drawn up with the other team.

That's not exactly letting him walk for free.

Takes him straight to UFA. Fair imo. Maybe 500k extra, but I like it.

This is an overpayment for an under-preforming fourth line winger
