I like this move. We clear out 1.5m, get younger, and gives a player a chance to reset their game under a different system. Bottom 4 Dmen shouldn't have to cost more than 2m, and he comes as a 1.5m cap hit for another year with rfa status. This is rare for us, its a W for us, and helps toronto so is a fair deal.

Yeah that is about exactly what I expected.
Canucks fans you will mostly like Dermott. Dont fall for the hysteria around him that all Leafs depth D get, he is a good dman. His main issue is that he never grew out of the rookie mistakes phase and took his game to the next level. If he is your 3rd LD you should be very happy with it (and even if he needs to play a few games as a 2d bc of an injury). Btw he is much better on his left, but can pinch for RD.

So pretty much Hamonic for Dermott,

Couple of smart moves by VAN today. I'm happy with a third and $1.5M in space. Unfortunately, Dermott wasn't going to get the ice time long term.

With the end result being Hamonic for Dermott... good swap by Vancouver.

3rd round picks only have about a 50/50 chance of playing a single game in the NHL and roughly a 1 in 4 chance of playing 100 or more games. Getting a full year of a third pair D-man for $1.5 million and giving up just a 3rd to do so. I give the slight advantage to the Canucks here. Very slight advantage.

Fair deal! So many Leafs agms overvalued the hell out of this guy. How many of you were looking for 2nd rounders in your deals..? Yet some of you are voting T.O won the deal.. I'm legit confused, but also not suprised in the Leafst.

It looks like Dubas tried to send Dermott directly to Ottawa .... but Dorion decided that Dermott ....

- Wasn't old enough
- Wasn't anti-vax enough
- Wasn't expensive enough
- Wasn't press-boxed enough

TOR sheds some salary to bring in Giordano. VAN gets Dermott (and loses Hamonic). I said fair deal since both win for different reasons.

Not a fan of Dermott..but I hate the Leafs so hopefully thats coloured my view of him. ( Sandin has way more upside than him though).
The Canucks have had to play a RD on the left side often this year- so this does help them out a little- and most importantly saves them 1.5mil for next year ( with the Dermott/Hamonic swap).

Hamonic (when healthy) is way better than Stecher. The Canucks will miss Hamonics grit- something they dont have a lot of.

I don't know if they will directly use that pick, I think it's more about replenishing draft picks. They just traded 3 for Giordano + Blackwell so I think Dubas is just getting more.
