The Hagel trade definitely helped set the market imo. Debrincat is a better player and has RFA eligibility after his contract is up. Two high end prospects and 2 late firsts might be enough for him but I wouldn’t be surprised if Chicago still didn’t want to do this trade. Debrincat is so valuable.

Personally I think the cost is so excessive it shouldn't be even worth it to do this. It's over 4 firsts.

Totally get that. I just think the caps may end up going for it this year knowing Ovi and backstrom are getting up there in age. Not to mention Debrincat is a long term piece rather than a rental. One more cup for the ovechkin era is likely the goal and I think Maclellan may be interested in a deal with this since the caps are like 7-2-1 in their last 10 or something like that.
