Description
Kyle Davidson just acquired two NON-slide contracts on ELC rates. So, they're going to play in the NHL because if you try to send them to Rockford...that means waivers and...someone will pick them up. I have a feeling (UNFORTUNATELY) this will feel like a justification to acquire a cap dump like Mrazek. It won't be free NOR should it be anything close to free, but Dubas has to be feeling the pressure to actually make his team better at the Trade Deadline like Tampa, Colorado, and even the likes of Calgary and Florida...teams that don't often make splashy moves. TOR's window is now and they need to fix THREE areas of concern. Defense, Goalie, and Cap Space into the future.
Transactions
1.
CHI
  1. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (LAK)
Détails additionnels:
I would have thought a 4th, but prices are STEEP right now.
2.
CHI
  1. Knies, Matthew [Liste de réserve]
  2. Mrázek, Petr
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
TOR can find a home for Dermott which will mean they have enough cap space to do the trade.

Being able to extend Jack next year while going for it this year solves a lot of TOR's problems. The Hagel trade essentially means they don't want an Alex Steves, or Joey Anderson or Nick Abruzzese. They just got two of those guys that can't slide to Rockford. Any trade now needs to be YOUNG prospects or picks.
TOR
  1. De Haan, Calvin (2 275 000 $ retained)
  2. Fleury, Marc-André (3 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
I'd keep Mrazek in Rockford vs buying him out. Rip off the band aid and help guys like Arvid Soderblom and potentially Drew Commesso to slide up/down as they develop. It'll be over before you know it and Mrazek will be the Ice Hogs backup.

If we do go the route of taking on Mrazek's cap dump I'd hope for more in return than this deal. I'd also rather let him get shelled in the NHL and let Soderblom play more in the AHL

Knies is untouchable for the likes of Chychrun and Lindholm yet moves in this fantasy for De Haan. Sure bud

I mean literally every Leafs fan in the world said that last year about Robertson...and yet here we are talking about Knies... He's no doubt a good prospect, but let's not forget he does have a lot of help on that line in Minnesota. Ben Myers the captain of the Gophers is likely the single most coveted NCAA player to sign this summer.

I just don't see it happening. It's been widely reported that dubas does not want to trade his 1st or top prospects for rentals. Here you did both. I don't think MAF gets that much anyways. He will only accept a trade to a couple teams so not like there's a lot of interest. Plus there's no guarantee he plays great on toronto while he adjusts to the new system. I feel if they were going to get a goalie it would have been last month.

I would play Lankinen and then yea probably Mrazek back up so that Arvid can get more starts. Yeah, I hear you there.

I'm not saying your wrong, but every year teams make trades to go all in. You're going to have to go through either Florida or TBL who are going all in. TOR won't have this team forever. At least go try to win a cup. They gave up a 1st round pick last year for (going from memory) 11 games of Foligno...and then went and drafted Knies who is apartly equal to god in trade value.

I think the Leafs might have found their backup goalie in Kallgren. He's been putting on a clinic in the 3 call up games he's gotten this past week.

King did say he hopes we bring in NHL guys to replace the guys we trade so he can keep the rockford roster in tact. I could see a dermott coming back to the hawks if that is the case. Also don't see TOR fans being a fan of this once they see knees in it. Might have to be robertson instead

Don't forget that with bringing in those two SOLID bottom 6 roster players from Tampa Bay, this makes it a lot easier to move roster forwards like Borgstrom, Carpenter, and Kubalik without having to call up and expose their decent prospects, like Hardman, Reichel, Slavin, etc.

There's no doubt that the NHL has a long history of goalies out of no where. Matt Murray, Jordan Binnington, Niemi, etc... I just don't think 3 career starts something Dubas is hanging his hat on.

Toronto needs defense before they focus on a goalie and I think Kallgren might have answered that call backing up Campbell. I also think the Leafs are not the team to make it far this year knowing Florida and or Tampa will be in the way and to your point they are going all in.

If Dubas is fighting for his job he will make a splash with a D acquisition first. Watching the Leafs it's painfully obvious they aren't going anywhere the way the D is playing. Do you think Flowers waives for the Leafs anyway?

I like Knies, I think he's a better fit because the Hawks lack power forwards. I just don't see his value equal to what TOR fans think. It's not McDavid like. When you play on a line with Ben Myers and Chaz Lucius...I mean TOR fans are thinking that he's doing this all by himself. Ben Myers is likely the single most coveted NCAA UFA and Chaz is a 1st round pick himself...

Toronto will be an underdog in any playoff scenario. You cannot simply react to other teams making moves, that's when you make bad moves. The Foligno trade is a perfect example for NOT going all in. They love knies and don't want to trade him. I'd stay away from that prospect, but every team has a prospect that nobody will trade. They want him on the team in 2 years on an ELC and producing.

I hear ya, but don't you think Dubas has to be on the hot seat? He hasn't won anything and other teams are certainly trying harder at winning that he is. They're at least willing to sacrifice more to win than him.

You'd think, but it's hard to argue what he's done so wrong. I feel like if they lose again they trade a big player for a change rather than firing a gm.

I have an unpublished team on my account with that exact Toronto trade. I titled it “Bad for Bedard”. Mrazek in net for the hawks next year could be good…
