Hagel makes far less, is younger, has 2 years left, and more importantly... plays the exact kind of role Tampa got in Coleman... Lehkonen won't get ANYWHERE NEAR the kind of return Hagel did.

TB declines. With the Hagel acquisition acquiring Lehkonen is just pointless. Plus that's a HUGE overpayment for a guy with no term.

The reason Hagel got so much was because he is signed at 1.5m a year for several more years.

Lehky is an RFA and needs a new contract and is also not having nearly as good a year as Hagel.

Montreal may get a 1st for him though if he is half retained. Time will tell.

Hagel with his contract is worth significantly more than Lehkonen. I'd be surprised if MTL gets a single 1st for him.

I don't like comparing players, especially two that have completely separate styles. I'd imagine lehkonen gets a first. Not because of Hagel, but because he's worth it.

You tend to forget that the most valuable thing about Hagel for a contender teams is having him for two more years at 1.5Million. He is expected to get better since only 23 years old, lekhonen is 26 and this is the last year of his contract.

Hagel is 3 years younger (not significantly) makes 600k less this year (but with the retention on Lehky is actually more expensive this year) and Tampa can take Lehky to arbitration to get around 2.5-2.75 mil for another year bringing his cap hit to almost equal as Hagel's but with one year less term, hence the reason the price is only 2-2nds less than what Hagel returned.

I used Tampa strictly for direct comparison to the Hagel return, they most definitely will be out on Lehky at his point.

Unless your giving Lehkonen 4.1+ a team can offer sheet him for a 2nd rounder this summer. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a late first still but they're definitely selling him

Not if he is given his QO and the team files for Arbitration, then he can't be OS'ed since it is going to a mediator.

The hagel market and the lehkonen market are two very different markets.

You are right my apologies, it's players who elect arbitration that are ineligible.

Player Elected:
A player who has elected for salary arbitration is not eligible to receive an Offer Sheet

Yes Lehkonen in terms of how good he is, is somewhat comparable to Hagel but the contract of Hagel is why Tampa gave up so much. Lehkonen probably only gets a first on Monday. If they don't then they keep him

Honestly, the deal I expected for Lehky was a 1st + 3rd. After seeing how high returns have been this year I wouldn't settle for less than a 1st + 2nd anything above that is just gravy.

Delusional habs fan is right, because I am rational and know that players aren't traded at TDL on worth, but rather supply and demand and what a team is willing to spend to acquire them. So yes, chiarot should have and did get a 1st as evidenced by what actually NHL GM's were willing to pony up for him. Seems like you need more schooling kiddo

Buddy, Chiarot isn't worth a 1st. There's enough supply (Giordano, Lindholm) that he shouldn't have returned a first. Zito got greedy, and made a dumb move. THAT happens at the deadline. But to say players don't get traded at the deadline for value but supply and demand is a joke.

So not only do you not understand supply and demand, but you don't understand playoff hockey either then? Well that was enlightening, thanks for exposing yourself
