You can argue/discuss who "won" this trade all you want, but those people saying that Tampa overpaid grievously or got fleeced should consider Tampa's roster for the next two seasons:
2022-2023 : only UFAs Ondrej Palat and Jan Rutta and RFA Mahieu Joseph expiring; $5 million in cap space ($6 million if the ceiling goes to $82.5 million) and 4 slots including the latter two open. That means that Tampa can afford to pay as much as $2 million to Rutta and up to $1.25 million to Joseph and still have enough room without further moves to have the same squad that will defend the Stanley Cup this year.
2023-2024 : only UFA Alex Killorn and RFAs Anthony Cirelli and Mikhail Sergachev expiring.
In short, if Hagel becomes nothing more than a decent middle-6 forward, this is the same team we will see for three Stanley Cup campaigns.
I take the long view and think that Tampa "won" this trade.
