HABS will not take Zack Kassian back. You need to remove Zack and add Xavier Bourgault

Habs wouldn't even look at that. That wings trade would be up there with the Reinhart trade, why trade an effective young middle 6 guy AND a first for a complete bust

Islanders wouldn’t do that first of all Varlamov doesn’t want to go to Edmonton and that deal just doesn’t do it it would be 2 2nds or a first and no retention would be included not to mention Benson has no value as he was on waivers and no one wanted him

1. Petry trade makes no sense for MTL. Getting a decent prospect, a decent pick, and a couple bad contracts while giving away their best trade bait.
2. Chicago wouldn't give you a pick for Archibald, he's a non-roster player getting paid 1.5 million. If anything, Chicago should be getting a pick in return for taking his contract.
3. Again, why would Buffalo GIVE Edmonton a pick for Mike Smith?
4. Overpay for Zadina. Yamamoto and a 2nd or 3rd seems appropriate.
5. This would be a good trade if it weren't for the fact that Varlamov has already rejected a trade to Edmonton.

You're right about Varly not wanting to go to Edmonton but he is NOT worth a first, especially with nothing retained. He has been OK at best this season.

Islanders could've had Tyler Benson for free a couple days ago if they wanted, and they passed. He's zero value to that trade. So if the rest of the offer is a 2/3 and you're asking for retention, the answer has to be no.

.912 SV%, 2.85 GAA, 2.0 GSAA in 18 starts would have him as the best goalie on Edmonton, and they get him for two playoff runs (signed for next year as well). If Edmonton doesn't think that's worth a pick that will be in the 20s, that's their loss.

Petry is already 34, with 4 more years at 6+ million. Oilers don't need, nor can they afford that contract. I wouldn’t take it for free. Lekhonen is a good player, but he's more of a luxury than a need. The oilers forward group is pretty set for the next 3-4 years. The young guys are playing well and there's still Holloway who should be ready next year.

Archibald is the exact type of player the oilers need to keep. Kills penalties and hits everything. Kassian is the only other forward that hits. You may not like his contract but the oilers need him in the lineup.

The Yamamoto deal is absolutely ridiculous. Even if you're really high on Zadina, you can get him for a waaaaay better price than that.

Varly ain't coming to Edmonton. Mike Smith will be the starter come playoff time. Next year will be a tandem of Skinner and Smith/Koskinen.

Adding 5 million to the Oilers cap would mean they have to trade away either Yamamoto, puljujarvi or McLeod. Don't think management wants to do that.

The goaltending problem has been overblown by the media. Since the coaching change, the team has miraculously been: great at 5 on 5, vastly improved its depth scoring and has gotten good goaltending. It's amazing how much better a goalie looks when the team in front of him is playing really good. Take Carolina, they've been plugging in goalies for years and somehow they all seem to play great there. Oilers are finally learning to play good TEAM hockey.

Zero chance of Petry waiving to go back to Edmonton when he wants out of Canada period, Detroit says yes and takes that and runs.

If you don’t think Varlamov is worth or can’t get a first you’re crazy considering the market I can easily see him getting a first +
