The LD they are replacing were a dumpster fire on defense. Leddy could only play offense, DeKeyser couldn't do anything, and Staal was what you would expect from an aging veteran playing on the 3rd pair. IMO this is an upgrade to what the Wings put on on LD in the 2021-22 season.
The Wings will not be a contending team for at least 2-4 years, so you have to plan for the core pieces in the roster to be coming into their prime at that time. You also need to have depth in the prospect pool, especially with injuries that happen during the season. There is a lack of Center and RD depth in the prospect pool, which is why I made the trade with the Kings. The Wings have 5 high ceiling LD prospects (Johansson, Sebrango, Edvinsson, Wallinder, and Buium), besides the two being traded away. I expect 2 out of the 5 will be on the roster within the next 2-4 years, and they should replace what is currently defined on the roster.
Why not trade a 3rd for Pettersson.
And a 3rd + a 4th for Schmidt.
And let Oesterle and Joulevi round out #6-7.
That's 10 times better than what you've done here.
Grans will never make the roster. He only plays the right side and doesn't play PK, and never has. Detroit is set on RD for more than a decade. Paying for more players on that side is a waste of assets.
Both Välimäki and Fleury are eligible for waivers and neither of them are NHL-players. What Detroit needs is
veteran help on LD, both in order to mentor Seider as well as shelter Hronek. Detroit have no use for marginal inexperienced defenders.
