I'm really happy with this for all parties concerned. I think we get full value for Manson, I think that (based upon his showing lately) Colorado gets a depth defenseman that should help them in the playoffs, and I hope that Manson re-signs there after winning the Stanley Cup this year.

Manson if he can stay healthy is a great rental for the Avs, but that was a steep price. Anaheim wins this by a mile.

I don't, nor should you consider Manson a top 4 defender. He's a 3rd pairing defensemen at best and will likely be #6 on Colorado

Win for Colorado IMO. I consider Manson a top 4 dman and to pay a 2nd rd pick plus a prospect (who I don't know much about) is a fairly low price.

Compare it to the Graves trade with New Jersey then.

https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/ryan-graves

Yeah that's a better comp. I think based on analytics the Ducks probably win this, but compared to the typical going rate for a player of Manson's type (e.g. Savard) this is pretty reasonable. If the Avs can turn Manson into a solid #4 this is not too bad.
Tbh I'm more surprised they didn't hold on to these guys for a potential Giroux deal.

Pretty close to a fair deal, but I think the Ducks slightly got the better of this one. Then again, if the Avs win the cup, who the hell cares if the lose this deal

Anaheim got a 2nd + a very promising prospect for Manson??

CHIAROT FOR 10 1STS

Funny, I was thinking the opposite. Manson is a better defender than Chiarot, Colorado has a very strong analytics department so they would have known that, of course.

5v5 On-ice Rels, this season
Chariot vs Manson
-2.66 CF% Rel +4.25
-3.65 GF% Rel +6.03
-5.15 xGF% Rel +0.72
-2.14 SCF% Rel +2.90
-6.54 HDCF% Rel +5.00
39.74 Off. Zone Start % 39.42

Manson's shot-, goal-, scoring chance- and expected goal-suppression is far superior as he actually does good work in these areas, while Chairot allows more of each than his teammates do. Chiarot has no advantage anywhere, not even in the scoring department:

0.31 Goals/60 0.32
0.68 Total Points/60 0.64
0.56 Primary Points/60 0.56
4.5 Shots/60 4.53
0.16 ixG/60 0.26
2.78 iSCF/60 3.26
0.43 iHDCF/60 1.11

Similar style, similar usage, but only one of these guys is effective at his job. How you can interpret this trade value as RAISING Chiarot's already inflated value in your biased eyes is beyond me. It simply doesn't agree with reality.

Manson is 3rd on the Ducks for 5v5 TOI/GP, a good indication that he's playing top-4. As noted in post #39 above, he's KILLING those minutes. Among regular Ducks defensemen, he's 2nd in CF%, 1st in SF%, 1st in GF%, 1st in SCF% and 1st in HDCF%, all while being LAST in Offensive Zone Starts. He's 2nd on the team for fewest OTF starts too, another indication he's top-4.

Manson has played 35.1% of his 5v5 minutes against Elites, similar to Chiarot at 36.3%. Not only is Manson most definitely a top-4 defender, he's also several orders of magnitude better at it than Chiarot is.

The more I look at this, the more it looks like Colorado got another steal here. Damn that Sakic is smart.

Fair deal. Colorado gets the RHD they needed, and Anaheim got quite a good package for a pending UFA who is having a down year. I think Rakell and especially Lindholm are both worth more than Manson, and this trade might be hinting at big returns for them.

Yeah sure ... Chiarot playing with a depleted d corp and a 3 and 4th goalie in the net while the Manson play in a full backend corp .... mouais vraiment la stats donne les faits.

Based on a ton of the metrics he quoted those don’t matter at all. All of the metrics he quoted are relative, so they’re comparisons of how your team does with you versus other players on the team on the ice. The other Canadiens also have those situations, so the point is that the Ducks are better when Manson is on the ice, and the Canadiens are worse when Chiarot is.

Also, regardless of all that, calling the Ducks d corps a full backend corps is pretty funny. Benoit and Mahura have played a ton and aren’t ready to be NHLers, and when really desperate they’ve even played Guhle, Pateryn, Larson, and now Sustr

we a freaking playing schuneaman, ouellet, clague, nimu or norlinder ... those stats are build with the team you have and every metrics evolve with team response ... you need to fill the whole to understand the validity of a stat.
