Description
It can happen. Just ask a Buf fan... they only got a 4th line nobody and a 2nd. Those tricky little nmc/ntc clauses... He is going to go where he thinks he has the best chance at a cup. And because of who he is and what he has done for the franchise, Philly will let him.

Colorado does need an experienced 3rd tender, no waivers to pass as he is in the A, Joe does tend to rent previous Avs, and I was bummed when Vegas took him.

Lets face it he gets to pick where he is going. Looking at the east... its brutal. It is turning into a giant crap shoot as to whom will make it to the cup final. There are way fewer legit teams in the west and Colorado should be near the top of the list. Because he has the final say, there is no bidding war.

He doesn't control it. Theoretically, the team could just hang on to him. If the return isn't what Philly wants, they could just not move him. If he's presented with a choice of a city like New York, not one that he openly wants, and he's given the choice Rangers or stay, that NMC becomes kind of pointless. He can't force his way to Colorado is my point.

Yes, he likely ends up in Colorado, but the NMC doesn't have anything to do with not getting enough of a return, that's just incompetent management.

You are correct Philly could hold the trade and not get anything. Thats awesome management. Again I point out who he has been for the organization. I don't think the Flyers will screw him over for where he wants to go. He really does have control. I could be wrong.

If the deal isn't right for the Flyers, why move him? Why not re-sign your captain if there's no where that will pay the price you want that he'll accept a deal to?

As far as I know, Philly is not looking to re-sign. And therefore makes your argument mute. If they were to resign, then they absolutely don't take it. But in the end, if NY offers a 1st and he don't want to go there it won't matter.

First off all, it's MOOT, not MUTE

Things change. Right now, Philadelphia are exploring the trade market for him, but there's a Long time between the deadline and free agency. If there's a deal that doesn't work for Philadelphia, why would they take it?

First, sorry I went with mute = silent, instead of moot = inapplicable.

I don't know, Im not a GM. Why did Buf take what they did? The word was the Avs were offering Timmins last year for Hall, which would have been a better return than what they got. But he wanted to go to Boston. They probably did it because something is better than nothing and Hall didn't want to come here. Simple concept of one in the hand is better than two in the bush. Its does come down to if they do want to resign. If they do, CG will probably retire there.

I think they probily land at least the 1st round pick from next year, but with landy going onto LTIR that makes the trade that much easier to make with no retention

Certainly the Avs don't have the cap to sign Giroux. If Giroux opts for a playoff run with Avs, he could sign with Philly in the summer. So whatever the Flyers get in a trade is better than not trading him.

There is enough respect between Giroux and the Organization to work with him to get him to his preferred destination. Philadelphia might get shafted in the return if Giroux only says he wants to go to one team, but even if that deal is the return, it's still worth it for Philadelphia to get something then have him on the team wasting away.

So because he supposedly gave three teams and because they are all in the same division and because they are the top three teams in that division, wouldn't one of those GMs be willing to make sure his team got him rather than a division rival? Not saying that he should bring back a roster player, prospect, and multiple picks but why wouldn't a GM that thinks his team has a legit chance at the Cup give up a late 1st rounder?

When comparing Grioux's potential deal to Taylor Hall, we should remember that Taylor Hall had 2 goals in 37 games for the Sabres playing with the best center they have had in my lifetime. Taylor Hall took that 1 year deal because his previous season was down statistically, with the hope that this was his opportunity to pad his totals and get a long-term deal. The Sabres had both no leverage and an underperforming asset.
