playoffs or someone is fired aka holland

Explications
- Beside varlamov (who isn't waiving to come to edm) and holtby (won't get traded due to Dallas being in the playoff hunt), I don't like any other goalie options for the oilers. I don't think anyone out there would be an upgrade at all from what they have already. So, I used the assets to stregthen the d core, hopefully making the team better defensively.

- Don't know if Holloway will be called up but I think he's good enough to succeed in this league, he fits anywhere in the lineup for me (specifcally middle 6), but I'd like to see him get a shot in the top 9 with one of mcdavid, drai or nuge.

- They can run either 11 F 7 D or the traditional 12 and 6

    Future Considerations
    FLA
    1. Archibald, Josh
    Détails additionnels:
the guy won't get vaccinated so it's pointless for him to play in Canada as he'd only play home games. He'll be a good bottom 6 player on the panthers and I have a feeling he'll play well there too.
    2.
    EDM
    1. 2023 2e round pick (VGK)
    BUF
    1. Barrie, Tyson
    2. 2023 5e round pick (EDM)
    Détails additionnels:
I think Buffalo wants to contend next year based off how they're performing right now and the Eichel trade (acquiring nhl ready guys in Tuch and soon, Krebs). They need RHD and better puck movers on the back end as well. Hopefully Barrie can bounce back into the player he was last season for them.
    3.
    EDM
    1. Mayfield, Scott
    NYI
    1. Samorukov, Dmitri
    2. 2022 2e round pick (EDM)
    3. 2023 2e round pick (EDM)
    Détails additionnels:
Similar to the Toews trade, the isles give up one of their top 4 dmen who they don't have room for with the emergence of Dobson and with a healthy Pulock. Getting back draft picks will help their prospect pool, and Samorukov should be able to step in next season for them as well, and turn into the 2LD they need down the road.

    PHI
    1. Benson, Tyler
    2. 2022 1e round pick (EDM)
    3. 2024 4e round pick (EDM)
    Détails additionnels:
Don't know why philly re-signed risto but there's been speculation about that leaving Sanheim available. I think it'd be a bad move for the flyers but seeing the Risto signing, this is probable.

Sabres decline, we likely want a sound defensive rd to pair with Power, not another offensive defenseman.

Sabres don't want to compete next year, I know Adams has said that they are shooting to be able to contend in 23-24. I bet they want to try and get another top pick in 23/24 as well as they won't be able to seriously compete. Next year the sabres are going to have like 5/6 rookies, even more second year players, players under 23 will be most of the team.

Yeah that makes sense, I know Buffalo needs RD just not the type Barrie is. Another suggested I had was moving him to Dallas with Klingberg likely going to FA.

Really doubt the oilers would have to add to move on from Barrie. Nobody can speak for NHL teams' management but with the past records of horrible trades for dmen, I can certainly see Barrie getting back some kind of value even if it is low. The only cap dump trades we see today are guys who are healthy scrathes or play in the minors.

I never said Barrie was good, he's still an NHL dman just a sheltered role with pp time now. I agree that his contract is bad but you rarely see NHL calibure players being a cap dump now. Plus we've seen worse trades involving worse dmen before. I don't think there's a trade in recent memory where a team had to add value for another team to take an NHL player. Maybe Barrie won't get a 2nd, but a 3rd is more probable considering the Keith and Schmidt trades.

He is a cap dump. He makes too much money for his talent. Hence why every oiler fan wants him out. Just like the sabres have wanted okposo out (this is the first year he has played close to his cap hit) There are players like him all over the NHL, and if they are moved, it cost the team to get rid of that contract. Barrie would cost at least a 2nd to get rid of.

The difference between Okposo and Barrie is that, Barrie has one bad year in TOR and this year in EDM. While Okposo has been bad for 3-4 years straight prior to this season. Barrie had interest while he was a UFA, oilers shouldn't have to add a sweetener for team to grab him. Again, he's still a decent NHL player, just not quite the right fit on the oilers. Also, if you can tell me a recent trade where a team trades an okay NHL player along with a sweetener for a team to take him on then I might reconsider my decision.

No. the sabres have been wanting to move him since his bad year. No one wanted him. Just like no one will want barrie. Funny thing, Okposo is actually worth a 2nd now, as I have other teams wanting him. NO one is adding period, because the contract blows. He was paid for what he did, not for what he will do in the future. But keep telling yourself he is worth something, it just might come true.

But you're ignoring my reasoning as to why I see him getting value back. I'm not saying he's worth the return, but he will get something considering the past returns for other dmen.

Barrie is quite literally one of the best offensive defensemen in the league and has been for nearly a decade. Just because he's experiencing a down year doesn't change the fact that he's elite offensively.

He's not elite defensively, but everyone knows that already. If he was, he'd be getting paid $9M rather than $4.5M a season. At this rate he's NOT a cap dump.

Here's an interesting comp: John Klingberg. Barrie is having a better season by GF% Rel (he's +4.00 while Klingberg is an atrocious -9.97), he's better by xGF% Rel, SCF% Rel and HDCF% Rel too. His scoring rates are similar (1.48 P/60 in all situations vs 1.61 for Klingberg), while being much better historically. Their zone starts are similar (Klingberg starts are weighted towards the offensive zone slightly more than Barrie's) and both have faced Elites in similar proportions (33% for Barrie, 32.8% for Klingberg).

Why, then, is Klingberg expected to go for a King's ransom at the deadline and then sign for well in excess of Barrie's $4.5M, while Barrie is considered a cap dump by this site?

    IMO Buffalo fans a myopic.
Barrie is an elite offensive RHD.
Put him on the third line with a strong defensive LHD (e.g. Samuelson) and let him drive the offense.
IDK if Karmanos would give up a second, but some team would.
    Pysyk for Barrie?

You are correct, "no fan base wants barrie at 5.5" "IDK if Karmanos would give up a second, but some team would."
    What do we know, nothing.
Think back just 6 months all Buffalo fans were willing give up on Skinner and Okposo.
Think back 9 months, all Buffalo fans thought Ristolainen could only be moved if Buffalo added an incentive.
Think back 3 years, all Buffalo fans thought Thompson was trash.
What do fan bases know? Not much.
Some GM will give up a second or more for Barrie, he is an elite offensive RHD having scored more pts than ANY defenseman last year.
If his defense was solid, he would have been given a $9,000,000 contract.
Let me close, I never gave up on Skinner or Okposo, I predicted Ristolainen would return more than Reinhart, I kept telling Buffalo fans big players take longer to develop.
I have been wrong in the past and past predictions do not guarantee future ones will be valid.
So sure "no fan base wants barrie at 5.5" "IDK if Karmanos would give up a second, but some team would."

just wanted to make a quick aside - it's funny to see a Sabres fan saying "no one will want to trade for this overpaid defenseman" merely 8 months after they traded Risto and his $5.4M cap hit for a 1st and a 2nd.

How many minutes was risto playing? A GM him sees risto as a physical dman who logs heavy minute. They're wrong but that ls what they see.

Barrie is seen a female dog playing on the 3rd pair, making too much money. Not my fault GMs don't know how to use underlying numbers.

This isn't strictly true though. Tippett had Barrie and Bouchard sharing the 1st pair right side, with the other playing 3rd pair (Ceci on 2nd pair). This could have been contributing to Barrie's average season.

Since Woodcroft took over Barrie has spent most of his time with Nurse. With 8 points in 12 games, he seems to be back on track.

Nice job ignoring my earlier post, BTW.
