Are you paying all of that for one run and to let laine walk or are you paying that to add another expensive forward to your team

Liane trade is interesting. Probably more than he’s worth and it’s definitely more than Toronto would pay for him. No disrespect to him, he’s a great player and he’s one of my favourites, but the last thing the leafs need is a one dimensional forward due for a massive pay check. Let Columbus keep him.

For the second trade, remove Knies. If Seattle wants a minor prospect as well , sure, but Toronto shouldn’t be trading a level prospects for rentals.

Why are we giving them three firsts, our tandem goalie, one of our top three prospects, and a solid third-line or fourth-line winger for Laine, a declining Domi, and one of the worst goalies in the league, all for only one playoff run?

I look at that Laine trade and my thinking goes like this:
Mrazek: Zero if not slightly negative value. Do not need or want a goaltender in any capacity.
Engvall: Minimal value. No spot to play here; would be on the waiver wire after the trade concluded.

So let's take those guys, and the 4th and 6th coming from the Jackets, out of the deal. That leaves:
Robertson: Some value, altho considerably muted since he's Yet Another Winger on a team overfilled with wingers.
Three 1sts: Very very shiny, but they're all almost certainly going to be late 1sts. Quantity isn't a need; prospect pool depth ceased to be an issue here with the Seth Jones trade.

In exchange for...
Domi retained: Expecting a 2nd; probably got the equivalent of that somewhere in there
Korpisalo retained: Yeah, sure, whatever.
Laine retained: Do I really think any of those three 1sts will get someone at Laine's level? Given that they're late? No, no I don't; not really.

So no.

that trade makes columbus considerably worse and taking a big step back to what they're trying to get out of. Equal goalie trade, 3 most likely non lottery 1sts, depth winger on to a team full of depth wingers, and a slightly overhyped prospect; another winger, something they don't need.
