I saw an interesting offer from a Ducks fan the other day. Steel + 3rd for Monahan in the offseason. In case Getz retires it offers a veteran center for them while also not blocking the pipeline long term

If you want Gaudreau to sign that low it HAS to be 8 years

Tkachuk gets at least 8.5M

Mangiapane probably gets more than 5M

Phillips is not a center

Johnny Gaudreau with the kind of season he's having on the open market gets between, 7 x $9,500,000 to 7 x $10,000,000 he's not signing that cheaply to remain in Calgary. And Tkachuk probably in the 8 x $9,500,000 range doubt either signs as low as you have them.

I'll be surprised if Tkachuk signs for less than his QO.

That’s an easy no from Columbus. The 2nd is to just take on Lucic, let alone adding Karuly, who you traded for a 3rd.

I would do Steel and a 3 for Monahan in a heartbeat

Not really interested in trading Comtois at his lowest value

Except that he does block the pipeline. Zegras and Lundeström are basically confirmed down the middle next season. McTavish is likely as well. With Monahan, the Ducks would have 3-4 guys competing for that spot. Groulx, Henrique, Steel and Monahan. Admittedly, Henrique has mainly played LW this season. But that still leaves 3 and the question who should play arises anyway even without the trade (Steel or Groulx, especially since Steel has improved quite a bit this season).

Edit: Nevermind, I apparently can't read and didn't see that you included Steel in your trade. My bad.

I asked that poster (this was on HFB) about McTavish and they said they expect him to play wing next year before working his way to center. Despite likely being the long-term 1B you still need to win faceoffs (especially on the powerplay) and Monahan would be easily one of your best FO guys with Getz gone.

In theory, Monahan is the better player for sure. However, he isnt a cheap player to take on especially with the last 2+ years of not producing. Especially if the Flames need cap space to sign everyone in the offseason and have wiggle room. But I would take Monahan on the Ducks. He can help solidify the #2 center role and shift to wing if and when McTavish is ready to take on full time next season. And if he isnt, then you have a quality center in place already.

Possible. but I hope that with new coaching hopefully in place next year, McTavish will pay Center. He looked much better / more comfortable this season whenever he played C instead of W and his face-offs have been good. In 21/22 (in the OHL) he won 113 of 180 face-offs (=62,8%). He leads the OHL in FO% when not taking players into consideration with 33 or less FO attempts.

FO% in the OHL is irrelevant. I hope you know that. New players are always horrible at FO in the NHL

Kuraly has been an excellent pickup AND he's a hometown guy. No way in hell we move him for a cap dump.

Yes, I do know it's rather irrelevant. But at least it's a good starting point. It would be totally different if his face-offs were already bad in the OHL.
