Cap maneuver

Description
So the Weber thing took me forever to grasp, from what I understand, Weber likely won’t retire considering he would still get paid on LTIR but the NHL can recognize that he will never be able to play again and therefor the Wild would be able to spend as far past the cap as Webers annual cap hit which is 7,857,143.

So…

7,857,143 + 81,500,000 = 89,357,143 (amount of cap space we would have)

Bettman has also said the cap will be going up $1,000,000 in the 2022-2023 season, so we would actually have $90,357,143.

The whole situation is weird but from what I read, that is what would happen. A similar situation happened with Chris Pronger I’m pretty sure.

For some reason acquiring Webers contract would actually give us cap relief over the next 4 years, I think everyone is assuming he will probably never play again.

Minnesota shouldn't take the risk that NHL will approve anything helping Minnesota. Greenway can't be traded. A contract extension doesn't begin until the next season begins. There's a million reasons why teams don't do this

This isn't how it works unfortunately. The LTIR benefit (additional cap room) is already accounted for when you put them on LTIR on this website.

The way you have it is double counting the cap relief.

There's already talk that Minnesota will probably have to move Fiala due to their upcoming cap crunch. And you honestly think they can afford both Hertl and Lindholm? And Lindholm will get more then what you're offering. Hertl probably in the $8,000,000 on a 7 yr deal and Lindholm probably 7 x $7,500,000 good luck with that.

And where are you coming up with Minnesota and $90,000,000 in salary cap? They basically have less then $10,000,000 in cap to sign like 7 players.. These next 3 years are serious cap crunch with the buyouts of Parise and Suter. Sorry dude but Shea Weber on LTIR doesn't give you extra in salary cap that's not how it works. You're still screwed here big time cap wise for the next 3 years or so.

Cap maneuver with Webers contract

You can't add Webers LTIR to your salary cap that's not how it works, And you only get benefits if you spend right up to the cap or go over slightly.

Doubt we see Edmonton revisit Talbot. Apparently Oilers fans harasses his wife or something.

Put Weber into the scratch column and you’ll see the team cap amount go up. His cap hit automatically comes out when you put him in LTIR, so you still need to stay under your projected $82,5MM cap

Here's my thought on Weber. Folks are assuming he is gonna on LTIR for four full more seasons. Maybe he does a "Louango" Lou retired. He didn't think it was worth all the effort to do the severe rehab to get stay on LTIR. So he retired instead and his front loaded contract invoked the recapture penalties. Weber is owed "just" 6m on his remaining four years. Maybe he thinks it's just better to retire and rehab and rest on his own schedule.

If you consider what Dmen have been signing for the last couple years (Nurse, Hamilton, Jones etc.) Lindholm will get 8M + on his next contract

Pretty sure this cap maneuver idea has been debunked.
