If Colorado is looking for a bottom six/PK’ing forward (á la Cal Clutterbuck, allegedly…), I wonder if San Jose would be willing to part with Matt Nieto. He was over-cast for most of his time with Colorado, playing middle six minutes for a team that was trying to build a second a third line. But he was always a reliable defensive forward and PKer who fit the Avs style. I think he would be an upgrade over Darren Helm on the 4th line, plus slightly cheaper and signed through next season.

In this scenario, Colorado gives up Nicky Leivermann - a 23 year-old senior defenseman at Notre Dame. His raw skating ability got him drafted in the 7th round in 2017 and he’s improved each year since (25 points in 30 games this year). But his draft right expire this summer, and his path to the NHL in Colorado is clogged by some superior prospects. I don’t think he would sign with the Avs. Helm is involved to balance money.
