We should consider a 1 year deal for Anton Forsberg and a buyout for Matt Murray

Description
Next time Eugene Melnyk spends big on a premium goaltender, he should do so when our D-Corps is at least half-decent.

That way, we won't have to embarrass him and leave him hung out to dry every game.

And turn him into a sunk cost like Matt Murray.

Does Eugene Melnyk really want to spend 7 million in salary next year and then another 8 million in the year after that on Matt Murray?

If he did, it would be out of character IMO.

I would rather use Brannstrom as a throw in to dump Matt Murray than I would buy him out

Why buy him out when you could bury him or dump him? Having him on the books for 4 years instead of 2 doesnt sound ideal when OTT should be looking to end their rebuild and start competing in that time frame

Either way, it's kind of sad how his time in Ottawa has turned out.

I remember when he was the starting goalie of a back-to-back Stanley Cup winner not too long ago.

After his conditioning stint, he had a bit of a good run, but has faltered a bit since then.

                  Shame.

Has he really been that awful. I winced at that contract when they signed it, but this is kinda surprising. Might try to deal him instead of being on the hook for 4 years of dead cap, but that’s just me.

The problem is ownership --> management --> coaching

They have no idea what they are doing and how to build a hockey team. They are able to draft NHL players so it makes us believe the Sens could good, which is still possible but I have zero confidence in that management trio.

Matt Murray is owed 7 million in salary next season and then 8 million in the season after that.

That's a bit of a dangerous road to go up for someone like Uncle Euge.

Today's game against Arizona was painful to watch.

After his conditioning stint, he had a bit of a good run, but has faltered a bit since then.

It's literally just 2 games though. 3 games ago he saved 30 of 32 shots against Montreal where they lost 2-1

From January 13th to February 26th, he had a 0.941 SV% in 11 games (only Shesterkin, Kuemper and Swayman did better)

Has he really been that awful. I winced at that contract when they signed it, but this is kinda surprising. Might try to deal him instead of being on the hook for 4 years of dead cap, but that’s just me.

Contract was really bad the moment it was signed as he was an injury prone goalie that had to re-find his game (so it was risky). 6.25 AAV is too high for goalies (despite their importance)

He's been good for the most part (outside of games #2 to #7 last season), but this team defense is barely NHL level and games like today, simply NOT NHL LEVEL... so it destroys his stats and people think he's bad. There's a lack of good defensive players but also coaching doesn't seem to know what they are doing at times, particularly on the road.

Ottawa has been a goalie cemetery for 5 seasons, Forsberg is the last "survivor" but his turn will come if nothing happens.

Today's game against Arizona was painful to watch.

Also, he's owed 7 million in salary next season and then 8 million in the season after that.

Not ideal for someone like Uncle Euge.

I see where ur coming from.

Wouldn't Forsberg have leverage for more? have heard that the Brassoit contract is his comparable

Forsberg has never received an extension that is either more than 2 years long or that is worth 1 million per year..

Throughout his career, his goaltending has been rather inconsistent and he has often found himself either on waivers or in the AHL.

If a player is at his best with one team but not any other, it severely limits whatever leverage he might have.

Ryan Dzingel is one example of this and I'm inclined to think that Forsberg is another.

I'd be rather surprised if Forsberg got something like what Brossoit got with Vegas.
