Quoting: Makeeeeebo
Expecting to get positive assets for Barrie is the dumbest **** I've ever seen. And even the Lehkonen trade is awful, he's expected to get a 1st, similar to the Goodrow or Coleman trades.
Tyson Barrie is not a bad hockey player, that’s an idiotic narrative. So you figure he’d get negative assets, lol…. THAT make zero sense.
In Jan and early Feb he was the best Oiler Dman, by quite a bit. He got injured and then he wasn’t where he was at when he came back.
Let’s compare stats:
Thomas Chabot: 49 GP 5 goals 26 assists
Tyson Barrie: 49 GP 3 goals 20 assists
Offensive Dman having a poor year, not getting the same PP time as last year shows up well vs Chabot who plays a lot more. Ottawa could use a R side puck mover and as a point producing RHD with 2 more years left, he has a lot more value than you think. Edm has too many puck movers and needs more size, otherwise they’d keep him (if Holland doesn’t trade him for bigger defender, that is a fireable offense).
Lehkonen is not worth a 1st, that is fan talk. He is a depth player who doesn’t score like Coleman, who had a 22 goal season and the next year had 21 goals in less than 60 games before he was traded. Coleman was also on a $1.8 million contract and there was a bidding war for him.
Goodrow is 35 lbs heavier than Lehkonen (and a better skater) and most importantly was on $925 K contract. Lehkonen is expensive for what he brings, so there won’t be a big market for him. The max return Mtl will get is a third and a prospect. If Mtl retains they might get a 2nd from a team with multiple 2nd rounders.
