TDL moves

Description
This is my expected extent of the TDL moves from Chevy… the teams might change, but the players traded out should be about the same…with Schmidt being the only one Chevy will likely keep, but I’d move

In the offseason, after I got Dubois extended, I’d trade Scheifele and Wheeler and address the top 6 RW and top 4 RD…Chevy will likely keep Scheifele and Wheeler, sign a few depth left handers and call it a summer.

Schmidt is 30 making nearly $6,000,000 for 3 more year no thanks. Would rather have Marcus Pettersson at least he fits our timeline.

Avs would take Stastny for sure. Would you accept a 3rd and Kaut and maybe retain a bit?

Best of luck getting anyone to take that Wheeler contract

Both Pettersson and Schmidt fit our timeline. Yzerman isn't going to run with two rookies on D next season and Oesterle is 7th D and gone after next season.

With Schmidt taking care of the PP and Pettersson the PK the rookie that gets the nod next season (whether that's Edvinsson or Johansson) will be sufficiently sheltered to survive. Schmidt is young enough to still have trade value when his contract is about to expire and we should have fully developed replacements ready by then.

I'd do that.

Personally I'm just hoping they trade both of Stastny and Copp and can at least get back the picks lost in the Dillon and Schmidt trades or close to it (two 2nds and a 3rd).

I’d probably be ok with that

I’m thinking there’s 2 options
1) Get him to waive, retain 50%, and trade for the best return we can get
or
2) Buyout

I think the value is a bit high for Copp. It’s looking like it’s a buyers market this TDL and unless someone flinches, I see a good prospect and 2nd.
I definitely think one of the D goes. Not sure if it will be Schmidt as they seemed awful high on him. Demelo is highly underrated and we might be surprised what we could get in return and Dillon should bring an equivalent return of what Chia gets, but one of them needs to go.
We ain’t getting a 5th for BooLoo, maybe a 7th but he’s probably waiver wire bound.
I think this might be the TDL/off season that Chevy pulls off a groundbreaking trade. He’s usually pretty subdued but he must know something is obviously wrong in the room. It wouldn’t surprise me to see one of the big guys on another team post TDL or to start the new year. I just hope he addresses the teams need and locker room and doesn’t make a move just to protect his job.

I’m worried Chevys groundbreaking trade was last seasons Laine for Dubois

The first would be the better option, if there's no takers I'd keep Wheeler for one more season and buy him out with one year remaining, his buyout is a lot more palatable.

Whats your definition of a good prospect? I don't see Copp returning any teams A-prospect, I'm thinking maybe a
B-prospect like a Gawanke type with a 2nd is the best they'd get for Copp.

I kinda thought there was a bit of desperation in the two trades he made in the offseason for Schmidt and Dillon, idk what kind of moves he'll make if he's trying to keep his job.

B prospect is my expectation, potential middle 6 or so.

Bringing in some veteran LD is a great idea, but paying market value for an overpaid, underperforming D isn't the best way to go about it, in my opinion. Taking a cap dump for additional assets, or signing a cheap free agent would be preferred.

In what way is Schmidt underperforming?

He's scoring at ½ point per game, the same as he's been doing for the last 5 years. Neither is he overpaid, his salary next year is $5 million and then slightly less the next two, this is comparable to Hronek who gets $4.5 million next year and $5.5 the year after and he has 28 points this year while Schmidt has 27.

Schmidt's under contract for three years which is exactly the amount of time that is needed to get Edvinsson up to speed and ready to take over.

The only real alternative is Lindholm and he is way more expensive and demands way more term.
