McNiven's goaltending for both Montreal and Laval this year has been downright awful.

I have no idea why Calgary would trade for him.

Calgary entice a trade for Chiarot (futures consideration)

Fair deal, McNiven's nothing special but he can help Calgary's AHL squad and we get a contract spot

and now Primeau gets veteran guidance (Poulin). What every young goalie needs.

A few thoughts here:

I doubt this is to free up contract spots, because we'll have enough after we trade players at the deadline. Only reason why, would be if we take on bad contracts also.

Maybe this means 1 of price and Allen are ahead of schedule, and Hammond to ahl.

Or pulin has played better and habs want to give him best chance

I saw Poulin live on monday and he has very good against a weak Cleveland team, but I feel like Hammond is going to be Primeau's partner, and maybe start in the AHL playoffs.

hard to say a guys attitude when he wants traded.
You basically force you're way off a team when you are not happy.
I don't blame any player for doing that. If you aren't happy somewhere you leave. Most people who hate their jobs eventually quit.
But that's not possible when you are under contract and want to play somewhere else.

Well it remains to be seen what happens with Montembeault/Hammond when Allen returns. For now Bureau-Poulin will play for the Rocket.

Bureau-Poulin is a better goalie right now. I’m glad to see McNiven get an opportunity on a new team, but it’s been a rough year for him on the Rocket.

Bureau-Poulin has been the better player for most of the season, but he’s able to be sent to the ECHL while McNiven cannot, so he was the guy for Trois-Rivières.

The trade was made to give a guy with no future in the organization a chance at another opportunity. This trade would be made regardless if Allen were coming back tomorrow, or not at all this season.

I mean maybe the Flames weren't happy with Werner's sub-.900sv% thus far into the season and want to lighten Wolf's load?

I missed most of yesterday's happenings but if there were only 2 free goaltenders available, zero incentive for Edmonton to help Calgary for free, so McNiven ends up being last man standing I suppose.
