Should bruins do nothing at the deadline

Description
Is this really the year to go out and trade for big rentals like Hertl and Lindholm to fill those 2c and LD holes when they might just walk in the off-season or should the bruins focus on addressing those issues in the off-season with free agency and just rock with what they have in the playoffs this year. Debrusk is playing well on the first line and if he keeps that up why not just keep him for the playoff run and let him walk in the off-season realistically they aren’t going to get a good player back for him. The third line has really come on as of late, hall and pasta have been great, defense is playing good and Swayman should be in the Calder trophy race. Obviously anything can happen in the playoffs and this team would look scary if they had Hertl and Lindholm but it would cost a lot for 2 guys we could just sign next year. Lmk what you think.

Well, if Winnipeg decides to try and rebuild, why not make a splash and go after Scheiffle? Forgot who it was but someone suggested this could be his final year there.

I think there will be lower end moves, where they trade 3rd and 4th round picks...
Thinking RH defenseman (Braun, Pysyk, Etc,)
I still believe DeBrusk gets moved. Yes he's playing well right now, ,but I worry if the trade request is not met at the deadline. The motivation or "care" factor could be at a all time low... Of course, I could be completely wrong on this. But if DeBrusk is moved. Someone like Kessel could replace him.

Kessel controls his destiny and he won't go back to Boston.

Obviously no, but he hasn't expressed desire for Boston in the past either.

And that could absolutely still be the case. I'm just willing to bet he'd be willing to come back for the remaining 20+ games for a playoff run... IF there are no better options.

Maybe as a last resort. He has a NMC so my guess is he'd be more willing to go to Florida or somewhere like that.

pretty sure kessel has already said he would go to boston if a trade came through for him, i think bruins are trying to maximize return on debrusk here, he is going to be moved. ala mark stone, with an extension almost in place to the team hes traded to, all the "but his QO" haters can shove it. his QO was never going to be an issue, like many have said from the beginning.

This probably isnt the year, i almost posted this same thing earlier. sell a couple expiring contracts off. you need another top 4 left dman, a bottom pairing rd man, and a 2c and a replacement for debrusk. thats alot to fill via trade. and even hard to fill via free agency.

Terrible defensive center all offense wouldn’t play well in the bruins system if that’s your replacement for Bergy you have to change the entire identity of the team. One of the most overrated players in the league in my opinion.

You cannot replace bergy. simply impossible to do. you will never get someone like him again.

There are better options, also trading Lysell is dumb he should be on the roster next year. Rather just sign hertl in the off-season rather than the bruins trading what little assets they have in the farm.

Doing nothing is the worst option. Either prepare for the future or give a real shot this year.

Yes so your probably looking at packages starting with a first plus a prospect or 2 for Hertl and Lindholm and then your just hoping they resign. Sweeney will do the bare minimum as usual at the deadline no way he trades 2 first rounders I doubt he even moves one. And I don’t see other options that are worth the risk besides those 2 guys. Sweeney will probably trade for guys like Stastny and Braun which won’t make a difference.

Jake DeBrusk is getting traded and this sets off a cascade of moves. His agent is already negotiating the extension with one or more prospective teams so it’s likely there is a deal in place, pending the extension.

The Bruins need a 1RW once DeBrusk is gone. But trading DeBrusk for a RW rental doesn’t make sense for them IMHO. Just spend a 4th on Kessel and that is more than enough to fill that position. Kessel shortens his shifts to give Pasta some time on the 1st line.

That leaves me to believe that DeBrusk is going to be moved for a LD. I believe they are going to shock everyone and land Chychrun.

Remember they just traded for the rights to another LD,

I’d expect that DeBrusk, Senyshyn, and Vaakaninen are part of the package. DeBrusk on an extension of 4x$3.5 would be VERY attractive to a rebuilding team. Vaak was playing 1LD and doing well before his injury. Senyshyn wants out, but has his goal scoring touch back in the AHL (couple Hattie’s and a 2G game the other day).

So, a guy who scored 27 in the NHL, another poorly used guy who could get you 20, and a guy who played 1LD on an ELC looks like a really attractive package to build around. Add a first, and sell it the right way, and Ari could make out like a bandit on that deal.

What is for certain though, DeBrusk is moving and if it’s for a player, it will force some other trades, so the “what if” won’t happen.
