What the leafs showed last night is that they are not a contender. Marner celebrating like he just won a playoff series when bunting dropped the pass back to make it 10-7 I think is an embarrassment. What they displayed last night was a complete and total embarrassment yet Marner celebrated like he was winning the cup. That defense and goalie situation is sketchy as anything. I have more confidence in the goalies figuring it out than the defense. When holl, liljegren, sandin , bush are all in your top 6 that is a major issue

Yes I agree. I'm not a Leafs fan, just wanted to try out a couple of possible (?) solutions to their problems.

A top 5 team in the league is most definitely a contender 5 out of the 7 Detroit goals were routine saves just a rough night for our goalies. We’re 5th in the in the league in points and goal differential.

I love your point on Marner celebrating because if you look at his first three goals he hardly celebrated at all. Bunting did Marners play which made Marner celebrate. Enjoy your bottom two team who won't even succeed at tanking.

I mean I don’t think you can overlook the fact sure many of the goals were stoppable. It’s not one game. It’s been 3 months where the leafs have the second worst goaltending in the league. That’s a problem that needs to be addressed

Like you can’t say 5 of the goals were bad goals so they don’t “count” when assessing whether the leafs are a contender or not. Like it’s a huge problem that hasn’t been fixed or improved in 3 months.

Leafs top line is unreal, maybe best in the league. But name me one team that goes deep in the playoffs with this kind of goaltending

Name me one team that has ever had playoff success with this level of goaltending . Leafs are 31st in the league in goalies since start of December. This isn’t 1 game, 1 week or even 1 month….it’s 3!!!

This is a massive issue and leafs are cooked if it’s not addressed either by getting a goalie or by having Campbell or Mrazek figure it out

Despite the past the poor two weeks for the Leafs, the Leafs still have a better GAA than Tampa and Florida. But never see any trades for those two teams dismantling their team to get iffy help for their playoff push.

Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Don't worry it will be alright. That was a crazy game. Lots of the players had fun. A game against Detroit in late February would not constitute a playoff type game. They played that style against Minnesota. Did you watch that? Every loves to overreact in these games. They won didn't they? Was it pretty? No but who cares. Marner has legitimately been one of the best players in the league the last what 20 games? The kid got his confidence back and is dominant so let it go. Is this Bryan Hayes "Drop PaSS iSnT plAyoFf type hoCkEy" just ridiculous lol. Defence definitely needs a top 4 guy, but the 4 guys listed are great 3rd pair/number 7 dmen. If they are a major issue then literally every team in the league has a major issue. What do you want as the 3rd pair? Chariot Schenn? No thanks. Goaltending is a big issue. Not easily solved, just lots of training from the goalie coaches to inspire confidence again.

If the Leafs need to get this desperate about improving their team in major ways over half way through the season then we all need to ask the question. Whos fault is this. If the Leafs need major changes then clearly there has been major mistakes made by management and its going to start with the firing of Shanahan Dubas and Keefe.
Personally i dont aggree with the way Dubas has built this team or how Keefe coaches it. They have a modern philosophy that i dont think will work in the playoffs. I could and would love to be 100% wrong.

Hahah no man he actually did play games in the OHL for the Colts and the Sting. They always joke about it on Overdrive.

Maybe you're right....but the Leaf still have a better GAA than Florida and Tampa but we don't see trades dismantling their teams just to pick up a another 3rd paring Dman or two.

He's a PP specialist that the Leafs don't need. He's average at best at even strength and PK. Should the Leafs or any team dismantle their team, their cap, their futures for such a player. As I suggest by the number of CF posts, it's only the Leafs that should be doing this.

Neither the team or the cap get dismantled in this trade. Their futures yes, but that's nothing new for the Leafs or contenders in general. Klingberg is a huge upgrade to Holl, so the Leafs would be wise to pursue him. There's of course other options as well, but an upgrade is needed, especially as Muzzin is out for the time being.

As for the large number of Leafs posts, the calculation is pretty easy. Leafs and Habs have the most fans on this site, much more than Tampa and Florida, which means more Leafs and Habs posts.

Well I agree that the Leafs/Habs have most fans on this site. So, there is a race to see who can make the most outlandish, impractical trades.

Except it’s not just a game in february. This is a common pattern that this team has shown for 4-5 years. Don’t pretend like it’s a one off. Goaltending and defense should be major concerns right now imo. I don’t think they need forwards

Exactly why Marner celebrated, Bunting copied his play perfectly.
