I think it’s a better idea to target lindholm. He would be a cheaper option and I’d still a top pair LD

I don't necessarily disagree with you but Lindholm is a rental, neither of my guys are. Additionally, Chychrun is younger and Oleksiak is a monster.

Isn't even close feels a bit aggressive but I will give you that I felt like that was an underpay so what should I add?

Another 1st? Another prospect? Remove Crouse entirely?

The first trade is accurate. I think Knies goes instead of Abramov though to make it more even. And although Oleksiak isn’t bad, there isn’t a chance we give a first and Villenueve for him

What happens next season when Muzzin isn’t on IR and Leafs have to resign Campbell, Kase, Sandin, Crouse, Engvall? Then the year after a hopefully bunting extension?

Based on a bit of research I kinda think that Oleksiak might be Seattle's most effective defender, not to mention he's the size of a building. I'd imagine the Kraken would want at least a first.

Yeah, but a 1st (albeit late af), a Roster Player and a 3rd is probably enough for Oleksiak. Adding Villeneuve (who I consider a B+ prospect), might be a bit of an overpay. I get that SEA values him high, but it's not a player we need.

Trade guys! I honestly don't care if this helps them make a run, which I think it would. Kerfoot and Mrazek are movable contracts and it might be wise to move on from Muzzin soon-ish, especially if they have already acquired 2 good defensemen with term.

Just by moving those 3 guys you have opened up 13 mill.

I guess my counter argument to that is, this trade isn't that different from the Jake Muzzin trade, which I consider to be a fair deal even in hindsight. You have to overpay at the deadline, especially if its a guy that isn't on the block and especially especially if you are the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Also, I know people like Villeneuve, I just don't know much about him so he's my usual B- to B+ prospect add.

3 more years of a 33 yr old declining defence man just off back to back concussions at about 6 mil a year isn’t going to be easy to move. Probably have to pay someone to take him. Nobody’s going to line up to take Mrazek either at about 4 mil a year, you can get someone just as good for cheap in free agency - think fleury, francouz, holtby, korpisalo or greiss. I do think Kerfoot would likely be easy to move but it would only be for a later round pick like a 3rd

Definitely a good point, but I'd counter with Muzzin being the better player at the time of the trade and was making less than Oleksiak is now. I would be generally OK with trading Villeneuve, but I'd wonder if we included the 3rd if we couldn't get a pick back. I feel like that particular asset is worth retention or another pick in return (e.g., we send a 2023 3rd for a 2022 4th)

Also concerned with having 4 LHD in your top 4 - seems like a scary idea.

You're seriously undervaluing Kerfoot - he's worth a 2nd at least. We're talking about a versatile middle 6 guy who plays with effort every shift. As well, Mrazek is better than Greiss at this point and I might even argue better than Korpi (as much as Leafs fans love him for crushing us).

Muzzin is definitely a risk based on his health and could prove difficult to move, but not impossible.

Mrazek might be a bit tricky to move but your assertion about getting guys who are just as good but cheaper seems to undervalue both, the dollar amounts those guys will get, and how good Petr Mrazek still is. Like, saying the people won't be lining up may be fair, but that doesn't have to be the case to move him for relatively fair value, you only need one team.

Finally, Kerfoot is genuinely a valuable asset. IMO you are severely underrating his value league wide, even with his cap-hit. Not saying he'll get a haul or anything but he's reliable in his top 6 minutes, he plays wing and center competently, and he is an excellent penalty killer.

I guess my point is, the Leafs just got value for Nick Ritchie. All of these contracts are movable and some can even get some good value back.

I love the idea of more NHL GMs considering pick swaps like they do in the NBA all the time. But at this point in time asking for picks back usually results in opposing fans yelling at me for asking for anything in return so I try to avoid it.

That being said you make a good point about the Muzzin comparison and the LHD thing. Maybe the 6'8" of it all is clouding my judgement.
