From an Islanders perspective, they probably just don't do that move. It looks like they're going to just run Aho out there for the rest of the year to see what they have in him. If you wanted to throw a pick instead of a UFA LD, then maybe they think about it, but they basically downgrade from an RFA in Aho to a UFA in Harpur.

The Forsberg thing is interesting - could do the ol' sign-and-trade and give him 8x$8(or whatever the number is). Lock in that extra year of security for him, and really build in a solid core for the Devils with Hischier, Hughes, Hamilton, and Hforsberg (the H is silent). I think that team can be a scary, scary team if they ever get goaltending squared away.

Rather have Zacha or a prospect over Tatar

Devils decline. We are not paying for a rental when we could just sign him as UFA a few months later.

I think the point is more or less the same even with that difference - feels like they're letting him audition for a role next season with these last 35ish games.

Regarding Devils trade, an older 20pt player(at this time), prospect that was taken at the bottom of the 1st, an (top 10 protected) 1st and a 4th for Forsberg with an extension? Not nearly enough. Most Preds fans with rather just sign FF9 and not trade, but if we do, we could get a heck of a lot more for him than that if he is extended. I would would look at this type of deal for FF9 without an extension minus Tatar, who we wouldn't want, and the 4th.
