No we wouldn't. There's just no reason to keep him, they aren't going to re-sign him and we need to get a look at Walsh before next year to know if Fitz should be signing a RD in free agency or not.

Dumping a player means getting rid of him for as cheap and quick as possible. Not re-signing him

That 1st rd pick came from some journo at the NHL network, which is.... unrealistic to be fair.
But given PK's level of play this season I'd expect him at 2.25m AAV to at least fetch a similar return to what Devils got for Vatanen, which was a 3rd and a B/C -level prospect

We’ve grown immune to the hyperbole.

But the reality is, many hockey people (who make the trades) do not view him that way at all.

Subban is better than both Risto and Savard, they both got a 1st and more. The RD market is already scarce. Even smaller are the number of guys available for short-term commitment who are physical, agitating, two-way RDs who have had a ton of playoff success. We just don’t know what GMs will pay for that. Maybe less, maybe more.
