Description
Please read the description and trade details before saying anything

I’m just curious on whether or not this trade framework could be a starter based on their IRL GM-perceived value (not what they should be actually worth) and who would need to add (and add what)?
Transactions
MTL
  1. Konecny, Travis
Détails additionnels:
I don’t follow the Flyers too much, but I heard Konecny has fallen out of favour in Philly and that he could be available. If the Flyers want to improve their D without giving up their early picks, I can see a guy like him being used as a trade chip instead. Konecny could serve as a younger Gallagher replacement for the Habs and he’s young enough for the fit to make sense.
PHI
  1. Petry, Jeff
Détails additionnels:
Insiders have constantly been saying that GMs around the league “know” Petry is a “much” better player than he currently is (tbf he’s been great for the last few years and in these recent playoffs). While I do not believe he’s remotely worth this atm, seeing his pedigree and what insiders are saying I think it’s fair to say some GMs are probably willing to pay a late first (or at least a mid second) in value for him. I’m not saying he’s worth this type of return, I just think GMs would probably pay a decent haul for him considering his reputation.

Per The Fourth Period, Dallas and now Philly are in on Petry. Dallas has been rumoured for a bit, and it kinda makes sense if they want to replace Klingberg. Philly has been really bad, but apparently management wants to contend next year, so I guess it would make sense in their perspective to improve their D.

Yes those are definitely factors I agree with, but apparently GMs still see him as the same player he was last year (per insiders). i think he’s gonna get a decent return despite not being actually worth it. I was just wondering if this framework could be a starter IRL (not their actual value) and what would need to be added

If you had a time machine for Petry Maybe

At his age today, absolutely not. He’s not the framework for any young fwd or similar player like Konecny

No, a Konecny trade will be for someone like Boeser or fiala. Montreal would have to add a good amount more just because of age. Also Since Mike Yeo has taken over Konecny is on a 63 point pace

Reason I’m asking this is because apparently GMs still see Petry as the same player he was last year for some reason. Ik his age and contract are hard to work with though

I don’t think gms actually see that, you are taking things too literally from what rumor sites are posting

No insider even the main ones know exactly what 31 other gms think of Jeff Petry

Who else are you adding to Petry to get Travis Konecny? Because Petry alone sure as hell doesn't get Konecny not even close.

I admire you for putting this out there despite the fact that you knew it would garner adverse attention and comment.

I think that your intimation, that this really depends upon what the actual professionals believe is Petry's direction and future, will determine whether this type of deal could occur.

Konecny turns 25 shortly and should be reaching his prime productive years, but is having a down season. Whether that is due to the entire team's collapse or is more personal, we have difficulty analyzing. Petry is already 34, is signed for the same three-year term as Konecny, but is having a terrible year. As an outsider, I can't see Philadelphia doing this deal unless Montreal added substantially -- starting with the 33rd overall selection in this year's draft. Just my opinion, and worth no more than you paid for it.

I cant see Philly trading Petry unless we add a lot more than we would like. However, if they do want him, I would not be surprised to see a 1st if they get into a bidding war with Dallas.

well i dont think the value is close, age being such a factor here. BUT i also dont believe when people say petry has negative value. people here overeact too much with recent performence, you have a few bad games then your all of a sudden a cap dump. not sure what a petry trade would look like, maybe a b prospect, a second and some bad salary back. Time might tell!

Put bluntly, no. Konecny is only being moved if it's around a different young player coming back (ex. Boeser)

Petry does fit in PHI:

Provorov-Ellis
Sanheim-Petry
?-?

They can take his whole contract ( With Giroux +Ristolainen out) but MTL wont get a top 6 player for him. A 1st round pick would be awesome with some overbidding.

That is literally what I’m asking in this post?!? Ik 1-for-1 is not fair, I’m not dumb. I was just wondering what would need to be added lmao. That proposal is just a potential starter and I was curious on the fit and what would realistically need to be added for it to work

Koneckny for Petry and Caulfield and a 3rd probably doesn;t do it.

Petry has value, but this off season, there will be tons of top 4 capable RD in Letang, Manson, Klingberg, DeAngelo, Chiarot, Ristolinen, Colin Miller, etc.... Theres a ton of much younger Right Defense UFAs available for equal or less than Petry. His age and his current level of play only work against getting good value.

Do you think PHI goes for Petry or just takes that money and re-signs Risto, or saves money and signs Manson? PHI certainly has no reason to make the trade this season, and will have cap space and time to look over other offers and UFAs in the off season.

As other posters have said Koneckny probably only goes for an equal player, with a bit added/taken away, say a Boeser.... I just dont think theres a huge market for a long term, expensive contract for an older guy, especially not at the deadline, and not for good value.
