Sea declines because you won’t have those first round picks as the blues and WSH decline

Let’s say we get those picks

I really like slavkovsky potential but this type of trade can sink a franchise’s future

If you want a big forward grab Gauthier or gaucher

Chiarot and Lehkonen at best return a 2nd+B prospect not 1st round pick and besides 18,20 and 22 OA doesn't get you a 6OA pick not even close.

I think Ill trust the insiders instead of you tho concerning the value of those guys. They absolutely return a first (or an equivalent prospect) each.

Chiarot is a bottom pairing Dman he's no better then Nick Leddy and Leddy at best returns a 2nd or 3rd and Leddy has better numbers then Chiarot. And Lehkonen is no better then Namestnikov he's a dime a dozen 3rd liners and i don't freaking care what insiders say they're wrong more then they're right most of the time.

None of us think these guys are actually valued that much. But we can't say for sure that they won't return that much either. It doesn't make any sense, but the trades GMs have done don't often make sense either.

If I was GM I wouldn't pay more than a 3rd for Chiarot and maybe a 2nd+3rd for Lehkonen. But there's probably going to be a GM more idiotic than me and actually pay more than this.

There's a huge difference between a seller's market and a buyer's market. And between many Habs fan valuations of their players and reality, for that matter.

Sure, there are. Just not as many as a team that's been around for 50-100 years.

Isn't it a bit of a mixture of both of them right now though? Based on the returns in latest exchanges it's buyers market when forwards are moving, but defensemen trading have been opposite of that, seeing the recent trades of Ristolainen, Dillon, and even Nick Holden to be fair. I didn't bother counting Zadorov, Strålman and Schmidt trades here since they got traded due to circumstance rather than actually buying or sellling assets.

D-men trade value is certainly higher than it's been in the past...at least by some margin.

Well, now you're talking about 1) trades from last summer & 2) some really bad or totally fair trades. I don't see Dillon getting any premium, for instance. He got a fair price. And, well, Risto was just dumb.

But, no, both of those types of players (defensive defensemen and checking forwards) are in a buyer's market right now. There's loads of them out there.

Actually those 3 picks would get pretty close in value to a 6th overall. Check the NHL draft value charts and those three picks technically have more value that the 6th overall. Not saying it would happen but the value is there, and you are not correct in saying the value isn’t close

Last year detroit traded 22nd overall + 47th overall + 137th overall for 14th.

Based on that , adding the 20th overall pick to the 22nd should get you higher than 14. (Maybe closer to 10) since the 20th overall pick has more value than the 47th overall and 137th overall. Then, to get you from 10 to 6ish, the OP added the 18th overall which should be enough to move up 4 spots

Again not saying it’s the right move or it will happen but the value is there for sure. And that’s based on historical trades

On the variable value of 1st rounders:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/analyzing-value-nhl-draft-picks/

SEA should accept 3x1st (20th-32nd). MTL should refuse for the same reason.

I’ll trust NHL teams metric departments to do their jobs. Lyubushkin is better than Chiarot and TOR just got him and Dzingel for a 2nd and a cap dump. The time for MTL fans to embrace reality regarding Chiarot’s value is fast approaching.
