Description

I was looking at the compensation requirements for RFA's and under $6,166,096 is only a 1st and a 3rd. Should Detroit be looking to overpay for the short term to pry Sandin away from the Leafs, they could do 1-2 years at that price before having to pony up for Seider and Raymond.

The Leafs would have to choose between Sandin and Campbell at that point, or ice a very inexperienced LW side.

The UFA stuff is just stupid fun without any regard for sense.

No way, then his QO will be over 6 mil, and he's not worth anywhere near that. Not losing a 1st and a 3rd for 1 year of Rasmus Sandin, who is nothing more than a 3rd pair Defenceman at the moment.

Oh he's not anywhere near that. I was viewing this move as similar to Montreal and Carolina - it has to be high enough that the other team doesn't match, but short enough to negotiate as a UFA should they not turn out to be worth the QO.

I think Kotkaniemi has proven more at the NHL level, so the Canes we're fine offering him the 6 mil or whatever it was. Sandin hasn't done anything yet at the NHL level to show he's anything special. He's proven his floor is a 3rd pair D, and he looks like he belongs in the NHL which is nice, but he hasn't shown enough to warrant an offer sheet like this.
