Third pairing defenseman don't go for a lot at the deadline. And no retention is necessary for NSH. If MTL wants more, NSH would likely look elsewhere.

For a 5 round pick Habs probably keep Kulak and resign him to be that stable veteran on a blueline that will be very young next year.

He would definitely be a plan b (or z) type of addition. But I think he could fit at 4C for Hynes-- he's still good at faceoffs and that's really all NSH would need him to do. Play around 10 mins and win some faceoffs. And if it doesn't work out, it's not an expensive price to pay.

I am just saying as a guy who has watched every one of his games since hes entered buffalo, he quite literally drags his teammates down. Do not overvalue faceoffs, if he wins the draw its not long before he does something that results in them losing possession shortly after. I would argue he may be the worst player in the nhl.
