Raffl went for a single 5th last year, and Parise is not as valuable as him. I think he'll get a 6th at best, with Lou flat out refusing to trade him at worst

Think with each passing day Varlamov becomes less and less likely to Edmonton. Oilers value kosk expiring contract more because smith is still signed for another year and skinner has to be on the team full time next year. If islanders were willing to do the deal a month ago Holland may have done something but that ship appears to be sailing away.

I’d like to know your reasoning as to why Raffl is more valuable than Parise because that makes no sense. The only way Parise won’t be moved is if he doesn’t want to be moved, there’s no chance of that happening because Parise is chasing a cup. Lou isn’t going to deny him a chance at that

ehhhhh idk. Jets seem to be making a push and kinda need to win now with a few players getting up there in age. A forced trade for a forward or defenseman seems imminent

Can only happen if smith is strongly considering retirement which is very questionable considering his personality and fresh new equipment he’s been wearing since his recent return.

From my evaluation, Raffl brings more on ice ability to a team than Parise does. I can't measure locker room abilities so Parise could be more in that regard, but based on play alone I find Raffl to be much more palatable.

I haven’t seen a single local report in Edmonton about it all this talk seems to be to coming from sources that don’t cover Edmonton so I’d be cautious about expecting to see a deal come.

in what aspect? Parise has been incredible defensively and while he does not provide much offense, he is the perfect depth player for a playoff team making a run. He can fill in on the PK and can play anywhere in the lineup. He creates quality chances and makes very few mistakes. He isnt a star player but hes what you want for a playoff team

Parise drives offense a lot better than Raffl and he’s good on the PP. Hes better than Foligno was when he got traded last trade deadline, Parise would return at least a 4th rd pick.

From what i've seen of both, Raffl is an upgraded Parise. I've seen great defensive ability, and I think he provides more offense than Parise. As a depth piece he is fine but looking at previous depth trades, such as Raffl and Stephenson (before we found out he was good), it seems that Parise would likely get no more than one 5th rounder.

I don’t see Edmonton doing that, however I would not be mad if we got Varlamov. Rather not get Palmieri though, and spend that cap, and or pick to upgrade our defence. If we got Varlamov, and Manson, we would be a very good team! I can see us getting Varlamov if Smith retires after this season, which I would be happy if he did, because I would love it if he became our goalie coach!

these deals are weird

-toronto gets Mayfield & Clutterbuck(with retention) to give us a 1st (probably in the 25-30 range) & Nick Ritchie's contract? Ritchie basically replaces Cal on the 4th line for a little bit less AAV but an extra year of term. I'd rather just hold on to Clutter at that point, let him walk, and sign a guy in the $1-1.5M range to play RW4 next year

-the Edmonton deal is probably fair value but if Mike Smith is planning on playing out his contract, I think edmonton has a three-headed goalie next year. if they want to give us Smith and his extra year instead of Koskinen, I could live with it - have Smith back up Ilya next year and then go away. I'd think that there might be tweaks to the picks/retention if you do that but the framework would stay the same.

-Chara/Greene/Parise deals are all fine, the exact picks back aren't important, i expect them all to be in the 4-6 range

-the Stecher deal is real confusing cuz that seems like a contender's move - trading a mid-grade prospect and a 5th for a UFA defenseman? I know you're replacing Mayfield with him, but I think you can either just bring Grant Hutton up to do that, or you can use a lot of the cap space you've freed up to absorb a contract from a team up against the cap. just a quick look at the contending teams show Tampa has Jan Rutta($1.3M), Calgary has Erik Gudbranson($1.9M), and Washington has Justin Schultz($4M) as pending UFA RD with cap hits that can be moved out if they're doing another deal.

-Bailey to Winnipeg wouldn't work without retention, or the Jets shedding cap somewhere else. I also think that the organization has some sentimentality towards him and wants him to get his 1,000th game in an Islanders uniform, which looks like it'll happen early next season (barring injury). Not saying I agree with them, but I can see them holding onto him through that at least.

Not really familiar with Derandreau. Stech is underated and I think would be a great fit on a playoff run. I'd like to think he is worth a decent prospect or a 3rd/4th now that he's healthy.

which is exactly why the Islanders shouldn't be trading for him.

to answer your original thought, though, Arnaud Durandeau is a 6th round LW from 2017, he's just turned 23 and is playing ~okay in the AHL (7-17-24 in 44 games for an offensively-challenged Bridgeport team.) His upside is probably bottom 6 winger who might get some PP2 time, but it's hard to tell because all of his professional time has been wonked up by the pandemic. I think Detroit could do better than him+a 5th anyway.
