I'd say the opposite. There is no chance that avs would accept a trade like that. Makar is a top 3 D for many years to come and is underpayed during this contract. Not trading a star player for a bunch of hope during their cup-window.

I would hardly call Sanderson "hope"
Way to much talent going the other way here.

Of course I have no insight in his talent other than what I can see on eliteprospect, but in my mind a ppg college player is considered a good prospect aka hope. You just can't translate college hockey to him being a clear NHL star player. With Norris being the only established nhl player I just don't see that avs were ever to accept a trade like that.

I was actually expecting much worse because people usually trade the moon for star players.

I agree the Avs shouldn't make this trade. It's not like they have poor depth and are lacking in quality players. They don't need to trade one of their stars to fix something that is not a need/problem

Makar is today's Erik Karlsson, you don't trade these guys in their prime.

That being said, Norris is 22 y/o 2-way center who might just be a 30-40 goals scorer every season (he scored 30 goals in his last 60 games) and Sanderson is going to be Slavin 2.0

That first round pick is also very valuable so overall this package has immense value. Oh and didn't even mention recent 1st round picks JBD and Boucher who might not become big stars but solid NHL players.

This package is worth a ridiculous amount of "first round picks" so yeah Ottawa also wouldn't do that lol (particularly considering what Eichel was traded for)

Edit : And yeah, the word "hope" here doesn't paint the picture very well.

I love how you knock the guy for being NCAA level when Makar had basically the same kind of stats when he played in the NCAA.
Fact is Sanderson is a beast on the blue line. Hell team USA ability to actually win games tanked when he went down after his game in the Olympics where he basically drove team USA to beat canada with MB.
He'll be an instant 1st liner and a star at the NHL level. The whole college hockey to NHL star is frankly irrelevant. He's been great at every level he's played at, against any level of competition he's played at.
Making trades off of point totals on some website probably isn't the smartest thing to do.

I don't knock at him for being NCAA level. I say that the trade won't happen because you don't trade a current top 3D during a cup window for a future maybe top 1-20D (+some other things that they don't need right now). It's just not the trade that avalanche would agree to in their phase. Even if the expected value is higher they just will not trade a current star for future right now. And with younger non-established players you never know what happens between now and when they are stars. For example look at Byram a very talented hockey player that was primed to be a star, but hes had a few concussions and is likely out for the rest of the season and for that reason cannot fulfill his potential/value (of course hope he will be well and can still realize his potential, just an example).

Thank you for understanding my point, yes "hope" maybe came off as a bit too negative but was just trying to emphasize the point of my argument of why the trade is a bad match right now.

I hate to break it to you, but Sanderson isn't some, in the future player, he could start NHL level 1st pair now. If they made this move at TDL, he'd be your 1st pairing guy next year.
And Byram never carried teams in the way Sanderson has. Hell he and MB carried the US Olympic team this year. When Sanderson went down, it was very noticeable.

You are not breaking anything for me, all I and Avs care about are how to build the best possible team to win the cup this year. And this trade does not contribute to that. Its just not a good fit right now, even if you are right about him being a replacement for Makar next year because we need Makar this year.

The argument about Byram was not that he is as good as Sanderson, it is about the uncertainty of players that are not yet a star player in your team. And to be fair, who the hell cares about the olympics this year, doesn't say anything. (Pleeeeeeeease note that I know nothing about Sanderson and I am not saying that he is not a good player, I'm sure you're right about him but I feel bad for him being in sens organization then)

first of all this ACGM isn't for THIS year.
so I don't know what you're ranting about there.
Second, there is nothing to feel bad for, for guys playing for the sens. I'm not even a Sens fan and I know that team has one really bright future ahead of it.
