Description
Assumes things go right for vancouver. Ignore the details of the trade. The main idea is sending out bad money and bringing in good players. It would be much more complicated than one trade, obviously

Not a real trade. Just looking at what would happen if the Canucks could dump Hamonic and dickenson and aquire zacha and severson. Obviously more teams/pieces would be involved

Inb4 people **** on the trade without reading the description.

Unfortunately I don't see a way to move that money and gain those assets without a 1st + being moved.

Devils aren't moving Severson. His name has been brought up ad nauseum by Leafs bloggers/reporters as the Leafs 'top target', so Devils fans have just been reacting to that.

Zacha was the only Devil I have seen listed in a rumor recently, other than a few PK Subban blurbs.

In terms of moving salary to Devils, we have been aggressive in retaining salary (50% on Hall, Palmieri, Zajac, Vatanen, Simmonds, Johansson), but we haven't taken many straight cap dumps. Our GM has said, on multiple occasions, that he wants to add players that are Jack & Nico's age (20 & 22), and is less interested in adding veterans or draft picks. I think that would rule out guys like Dickinson and Hamonic....and even put Boeser and Garland (and Zacha) at the older end of age window he is looking at. Or at least what he has been stating publicly.

I don’t think the dumps would go to NJD, but I was targeting zacha so I roped all trades into 1. In reality I think the moves I made would be three trades:

1) some package to NJD for Zacha
2) Dickenson plus some assets for a RHD who is severson-esque (Connor Murphy? Adam larsson? Not exactly sure who but a good in zone d-man)
3) Hamonic dump to any team.

So three steps. Maybe they all happen at once in one trade but doubtful. Likely would take multiple steps.

Mostly I’m just trying to piece together what the team could look like if we upgrade 3C and 1 RHD

Agreed. I think it would take multiple significant assets. Annoying to be honest as I think upgrading these 2 positions (3C and 1RHD) are the only two moves needed for the retool (assuming a petey bounce back next year as a 1C)

Got it.

Not sure who is next Severson-esque player, or Defensive RD piece, would be. I have a few in mind that are younger and could potentially develop into that role. Guys like Cal Foote, Phil Kemp might not cost an arm and a leg. Really like Brock Faber too and his closing ability…not big, but he is just very hard to get around. Drew Helleson will be solid. Nick Perbix, Vincent Iorio. One of my favorite sleeper prospects is Ian Moore, who was one of the last cuts for US NTDP for his cohort, has since been Ryan Hardy (former GM of Chicago Steel) and Jim Tortarella (Def coach, Harvard) approved. Those two have great record of spotting talent on blueline. Big, fast, raw and underdeveloped as Junior/High-Schooler. Give him 2 years with Crimson and everyone will be asking Ducks for him.
