Description
Addresses a few problems:
1) Top 4 right D. If Murphy doesn't work with Muzz, I think Sandin can play a top 4 role with Murphy as his partner
2) top 9 forwards. Leafs have a great top 9, but injuries will happen. They have a lot of guys that can fill in on the 4th line, but not further up the lineup. Jarnkrok can play any F position and is a good forechecker. Ho-Sang could be a top-9 guy but hes played in the A all year and might not fit a role. good low risk add, and an upgrade over Ritchie who was big for nothing and slow as hell.
3) Tougness, but not taking a way skill. swapping Dermott for Schenn adds a tough element and he can pk which dermott can't.
4) they can be soft in front of their own net, Murphy and Schenn address that without stripping their ability to move pucks out of the zone and defend the rush which they are already good at
5) cap none-sense they've not been able to load manage Spezza and Simmer, according to this they'll be able to do that now.

Keep Kokko and Hiro, and add a prospect with some actual upside and value. Then you're closer to a trade for Murphy.

Kokkonen and Hirvonen are both very solid prospects. A first, 2 2nds (the value of those 2 prospects averaged out) for an upgrade but nothing major upgrade from Holl to Murphy is an overpay

You might feel the value for Murphy is fair and you could have a solid argument but that doesn't mean CHI would be interested in making this move. Yes the 1st is always appreciated though it will be later and likely improve wish Murphy solid D game, however its the other parts of this deal which are the main reason for CHI likely declining, its more so that the prospects don't project to be much more than what we currently have. Taking Murphy will likely require a slight overpay due to his importance and term.

Not really. They probably never make it to the NHL. And if they do, it's probably very short lived bottom 6 roles. Murphy and Holl are completely different players. But even then Murphy is WAY more than a "slight upgrade" from Holl. Are you one of those guys that looks at plus/minus and thinks they're an expert?

LA traded Muzzin for a first, Grundstrom and Durzi. I followed this template (1st, 2 ok prosects) and added Holl to make the money work.

“Very short lived role”, what? Hirvonen was projected by some to be a late first round pick in that very draft, and Kokkonen a 2nd rounder in his. Both have had solid production in their respective leagues for players of their age. For long term, Hirvonen projects to be a very solid 3rd liner, whereas Kokkonen will likely be an above average bottom pair d man. They won’t be insane players no, but very good role players, which is extremely important for building a supporting cast. Think of Hirvonen as a Blake Coleman type of guy, very solid two way forechecker

Sure. But CHI is already loaded with bottom 6 NHLers and prospects. And this offer is not worth moving Murphy.
