Did you learn nothing from Ghost, Risto, and Yandle? Why would you want Barrie?

My guess is the point is to shift JVR’s cap hit, but taking more than half it back in a No. 6 D kind of defeats the purpose.

I would highly suggest taking a shot at Petry over Barrie. Petry isn't a complete defensive liability, would probably not have Philly on his block list, and Montreal would probably be willing to take back JVR to flip him.

JVR holds no interest for Montreal. If they were just looking to get rid of Petry, there's merit to exchanging him for a contract with less term, but we aren't near that point yet.

I agree with no Barrie, but don't see a fit for a Petry trade if there's cap coming back.

Edmonton doesn’t need a worse goalie and certainly doesn’t need JVR as a cash dump.

Player value wise, the Oilers like it. But paying an addition 2.5m for JVR over Barrie doesn't work for Oilers.
