Explications
Maybe too cheap for G, but hes just a rental. All depends on other team offers to Philly. I like Strålman on RD in avs. Think that price could be lower, but with the retaining it seems reasonable.

It cost a 2nd to dump 2 years of Compher. So I would say add a 1st all together then upgrade Sampo to a more legitimate prospect

Compher doesn't have negative value, come on now. He's producing at a ~20 goals and ~35 point pace (8 goals and 16points in 33 games) and is winning over 50% of his face-offs this year. Many teams would love to add a versatile third line RHS forward with that production. According to The Athletic's model he is outperforming his contract this year (market value $4.1m) and has a GSVA of +1.4. That's very solid for a 3rd liner.

It just so happens that AVS are a very deep team and if capspace needs to be found to add someone like Giroux then he's an obvious candidate given that NAK and O'Connor have emerged and done so well at super low caphits.

Yes, Compher's salary is $4.5m this year ($3.5m caphit) but by the deadline only 20% ($900k) of that salary will be left, and his salary drops back to $3.5m next year, so he'd easily be moveable for a pick if needed. I say this as a critic btw, just ask the other AVS posters on here.

PS. Despite this yes AVS need to add to the offer above. Upgrade the 2nd to a 1st and it's probably close, though I suspect Philadelphia will push hard for Barron.

Compher does have negative value. He may be "on pace" for ~20 goals and ~35 point but he also has 5 points in his last 18 games. Also take in that during that same stretch Colorado outscored their opponent 69-31.
He is playing at a below replacement level this season in terms of GAR and WAR, and has the worst Corsi% on the team. winning 157/312 face offs not a selling point for "is winning over 50% of his face-offs this year." That's literally +2 face-off, and he averages 9.5 face-offs per game. At 3.5M his stock is only a bit better than Tyler Johnson's was last year

Compher does NOT have “negative value” bc of an EXTREMELY SMALL 18game sample size u point out
That’s utterly ridiculous

Compher is a good 3rd liner who can play a defensive role,
and still is a 15-20goal scoring talent

I’m not even an AVs fan
But if u can’t recognize that he’s a decent player….
then just do everyone a favor & stop posting on this topic

You're twisting facts to suit your narrative.

Using an 18 game sample size is pretty ridiculous considering that Compher has been a ~35 point forward his entire career. Even including his rookie season and last years down season his career point pace is 33.72 pts/82 (125 points/304 games). Needless to say, pointing out that he's pacing for ~35 points (with the implication that he's a 35 point forward) is hardly a reach, it's just a statistical fact.

And again with the faceoffs, it doesn't matter if it's one faceoff over 50%, he's still statistically winning "over" 50%, that's a fact. Being able to win ~50% of your faceoffs is definitely a selling point for GM's and coaches, or are you going to argue that it's not?

Lastly, I'd genuinely love to see the GAR and WAR charts/graphs that you're referring to, if you wouldn't mind sharing them here. smile

I only used the 18 game sample size for the 5 points, if anything that proves he is streaky. The rest of the stats I provided are based on the entire season.

Then sell him as a 50% FO guy because that's what he is this season. Someone who is an "above 50% FO guy" is someone like Cizikas with 253/463 wins

He's not really that streaky though. See the chart 3rd from the top below, showing his points output by game. There's nothing particularly streaky about that at all. If anything he produces at a pretty regular rate. His point totals by year haven't fluctuated much either apart from last year. Neither has there been a discrepancy in his point production in the regular season vs playoffs.

comphj.95

Your point about not being an "over" 50% faceoff guy seems quite pedantic. I didn't say he was the best faceoff guy in the league, I simply stated that he is winning over 50% of his draws this year which is just a fact.

He's definitely one of the most obvious guys to trade if capspace is needed in a trade for Giroud for example. But if he is moved it won't just be as a pure cap dump, he still has positive value.

He doesn't have positive trade value though. Similar to how Lucic has 9 goals and 17 points this year while also being an effective role player, he doesn't have positive trade value

Lucic is 33 years old and has a $6m caphit with a M-NTC/NMC. I don't see how that's even remotely comparable to a guy who's 7 years younger and plays a completely different game including playing center and not exclusively on the wing. Calling Lucic an "effective" role player is a pretty big stretch considering how ineffective that contract is.

Lucic's cap hit is 5.25M, not 6M. He is effective at what he does, his cap hit is not good though. He would probably make 2-2.5M on the market.

Maybe you can swap Compher for DeBrusk or something. Someone also on a rough contract and struggling. It won't be Zacha though like your other post

I agree it won't be Zacha. That was more just me being curious to hear some thoughts from people about how they view Zacha since he was mentioned by some insiders as being available. I don't think that player fits the Avs though for reasons I mentioned in that thread.

DeBrusk would be an interesting reclamation project, could see Sakic looking at that if the price is cheap.

Under those circumstances there will be no trade from avs perspective then. 1st, 2nd, compher and legitimate prospect like Newhook/Byram will never happen for a rental. I don't see a 2nd just for dumping Comhper as reasonable at all, Avs management would never do such thing since they see him as a contributing player. Though I agree that he is well overpayed and does not add value to the trade.

Nah i was thinking more along the lines of Annunen, Barron, or OO for the prospect. Not Newhook or Byram

Okay, something like 1st+Barron/Annunen/OO+JT+late pick/low tier prospect. Kind of expenseive, but I don't hate it and would accept it just because we really should go for it this year. But guess you would want to upgrade late pick to a 2nd, and then its a no for me.
