Vegas won't move Dadanov....not easily at least

There is short list of teams that could probably absorb his cap hit and maintain regular order of business this season:

ANA, ARI, BUF, CBJ, DET, NSH, NJD, NYI, NYR, OTT, SJS, SEA
    2.
    VGK
    DET
If you take out the teams won't be able to fit him next year, you'd be left with:

ANA, ARI, BUF, DET, NSH, NJD, OTT, SJS, SEA
      3.
      VGK
      DET
If you take out the teams that are competitive today and would not likely take a cap dump, we'd be left with:

ARI, BUF, DET, NJD, OTT, SEA
        4.
        VGK
        DET
If you take out the bottom-10 teams (just for argument sake, say its the bottom-10 on Dadonov's NTC), you'd be left with:

          5.

I know Dadonov is kind of controversial, but he's actually having a pretty solid season. I think his year in OTT was more a result of the team itself and his fit than his personal play. He's already put up more points in less games this year. I don't think Vegas will have to sweeten the pot, but given the fact they have little leverage I just don't see them getting much of a return.

giving up a first and a second to move a guy who can still play and put up points is preposterous, obviously vegas needs to move money out but better to just get actual value for smith

He didn’t really fit with Tkachuk and Norris . Not surprising since those 2 guys needed a guy like Batherson who can carry play. And Dadonov isn’t that

Honestly, I'd say the odds of bottom 10 teams being on the list over Canadian teams are pretty high. Higher taxes, a hassle at the border every time they travel, and many of the Canadian markets basically put you in the media spot light 24 hours a day.

I may also be going against my original point, but Dadonov signed with the Sens after they finished with a bottom 5 record....that being said, Ottawa is pretttttty quiet for a Canadian market.

Yeah. Some players just fit better on other types of teams.

$5 million x 2 putting up 0.45 pts/game doesn't seem to me like something a lot of teams would be jumping at.
But the point is that there will be very few teams that (a) can fit his cap hit; (b) aren't on his No-Trade list; and (c) would want such as move.
Fewer buyers = worse for Vegas

Smith on the other hand, has 1-year left, has no NTC to worry about and has played a lot better.
He will be easy to move.

I think you missed the point here. I probably did not explain it well.
I am not saying that is the price...I am saying there will be so few buyers (if any) that the price will be set by them.
In this example, Red Wings were the only buyer left. Yzerman dictated the price... at 1st + 2nd.

Its just natural laws of economics.

That could be, but the 10-team NTC is basically just another filter that reduces the pool of buyers, which makes the price worse for Vegas.

If I has used 7 Canadian teams, plus worst three US teams, you would have two buyers left

Ah, I didn't notice the M-NTC, so yeah, that does complicate things, so maybe Vegas has to sweeten the deal, but I think the proposed amount is a bit much.

Say a non-contender acquires him for basically nothing now, what is he likely worth next trade deadline with retention?

So half-season at $2.5m AAV for rental winger around 0.45 pts per game? Maybe 4th or 5th rounder.

The deal above was supposed to be an example where there was one buyer left in the room...and they set the price uncomfortably high

Honestly though, Vegas just needs to figure out the next couple of months. A Dadonov buyout this offseason is actually pretty reasonable...$666k in year 1, $2.16 mil in year 2. Obviously shedding the entire thing would be nice for them, but I don't think they're going to go into desperation-mode to unload it.

If I'm Vegas, I try these things first:
-How much will someone give up for Wild Bill?
          If it's not worth it,
-Trade Smith and Janmark for assets, whatever they are.
If someone holds a gun to my head and refuses to pay for those guys (Which would be dumb, because Smith would be a valuable asset at the deadline),
-Go hunting for a taker on Dadonov.

Edit: Or, have a convenient injury that places a big cap hit on LTIR until the money works to bring them back.

LTIR should probably be option #1 to be honest.

100%. I mean, it's probably not unrealistic to expect another major injury there anyway...I don't think they've had a fully healthy team yet this year (Even without Eichel).

What’s your prospects? I’m not doing Brisson or Cormier. Others I’ll listen on.
