Can't happen anyway, the 2022 2nd round pick is spoken for until (1) Duncan Keith isn't top four in ice time among Oiler defensemen during the playoffs; (2) the Oilers are eliminated from the playoffs before reaching the Stanley Cup Final; or, (3) the Oilers are mathematically eliminated from the post season.

Many will suggest that 2 simply isn't going to happen, in part because 1 probably will. However, there is still a possibility that both occur if 3 doesn't; and if 3 does happen, it will make no sense for the Oilers to trade away those picks for Varlamov.
