Thats not getting it done for the Cat. Teams are going to have to give up their top prospect or very close to it.

Assuming Raymond and Seider are off the table, In this case the Hawks would likely ask for Edvinsson to be included in any package.

Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson would all be off the table for Detroit but Berggren is Wings 2nd best prospect which is "close to it" as you stated. Could upgrade Viro to Wallinder or Johansson but I think that's as far as Wings would go

I don't think CHI would be prepared to part with their best asset if they weren't getting a top prospect back. There has to be a little hurt. I said "close to it" as in if its not then the payment has to increase to be of equal value.

I know this is ACGM though the hawks aren't actively shopping the Cat and he has not requested a trade. By all accounts he is happy in CHI and is the future face of the franchise. To remove him will take a good haul which some other ACGM have proposed. I just feel like to get a quality asset you would have to be prepared to part with something that you don't really want to but for the benefit of winning and the franchise take the plunge.

Wings 1st will be top 10, probably even top 7 by end of the season. Winnipeg and Islanders will pass them with the number of games in hand they have, possibly Columbus also. That hurts to lose and is good starting point for a Cat trade. Wings pretty much have Edvinsson penciled into the lineup next year and are trying to start moving toward being contenders, adding Cat to lose Edvinsson is like 2 steps forward one step back. Kinda makes it not worth it. A top 10 pick + Berggren who is a top 50 prospect in the league, an early 2nd and a solid D prospect is a fair offer imo but I understand if it doesn't knock your socks off.

Upgrading Viro to Wallinder would be a more fair comparison if your 1st is indeed that high. We are taking big steps back in the hope that these guys cut it in the NHL also. Thats the big risk with any trade. How has Berggren been going on North American Ice btw? For Us it would be nice to get an NHL proven prospect back though I know its not always that easy.

I'd be willing to swap Wallinder for Viro. Bergy has looked good, he reminds me of a Patty Kane lite. Would hate to lose him.

Cat is Patty Kane Lite but can defend and scores more than playmaker. Proven in the NHL too on very poorly run teams. I think Cat would go to another level if he had better guys around him. As you can tell, hard for us to part with a guy we view as our future and has actually made it in the NHL. Value wise its not bad just no NHL guys coming back make it more riskier than other moves.

I think Bergy has similar ceiling to Cat, maybe not quite the level he's reached but could see him getting somewhat close

I get the concern over the risk acquiring all futures but Wings don't really have any roster pieces they can part with that would be desirable for Hawks. If you'd prefer Zadina over Berggren we could make that swap or if you want Fabbri he could be added.

I get the sense most Hawk fans just want to blow it up and rebuild from the ground up? Cat's value probably the highest it'll ever be right now and maybe some risk his value/production could dip a little in the future if Hawks went total rebuild

Yeah I think it will come down to what path the new GM takes. Hopefully we have that confirmed in the coming weeks as we get closer to the TDL.

I personally don't think the DeBrincat trade is best for either team at this time. Despite what Yzerman did with Leddy last year I think it's still early for a trade like that. I'd love to see a Mantha type trade to makes the team better that is clearly in Detroit's favor as a rebuilding team.

I love the idea of trading for debrincat since I think we need another high end top 6 winger. I don't think we should be trading our firsts over this draft or next yet. Those picks can fill holes in the organization with high end talent. Wingers seem like the easiest to acquire in the nhl over any other roster position, so trading for one now doesn't make sense.

I still think the wings are 2 years away, but I do like how this team looks. Would love to see trocheck sign here.
